Valid email addresses with + (plus symbol) are considered "invalid"
My new email address contains + (the plus symbol), but Facebook's website says this email address is invalid.
According to RFC 3696 ยง3 (and also RFC 2821 and RFC 2822):
The website needs to be updated so that it allows email addresses containing + as well as the other special characters, as they indeed constitute valid email addresses. :-)
According to RFC 3696 ยง3 (and also RFC 2821 and RFC 2822):
Contemporary email addresses consist of a "local part" separated from a "domain part" (a fully-qualified domain name) by an at-sign ("@").
[...] Without quotes, local-parts may consist of any combination of alphabetic characters, digits, or any of the special characters
! # $ % & ' * + - / = ? ^ _ ` . { | } ~
[...] Stated differently, any ASCII graphic (printing) character other than the at-sign ("@"), backslash, double quote, comma, or square brackets may appear without quoting.

Inappropriate?I agree! Many of us use the "+" sign to add unique email address suffixes for each account we're using the address for (e.g. johnsimple+facebook@gmail.com). This allows us to create simple filters in our email clients for managing this mail. I can't see any good reason that Facebook shouldn't accept these addresses--it must be a technical oversight on their part.
I’m confused

Inappropriate?I emailed them and this was their lame response. They don't seem to care at all.
Hi,
Unfortunately we do not support email addresses with "+" signs at this
time. Please use a different email address. There are no exceptions to
this rule. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this policy may
have caused you.
Thanks for contacting Facebook,

Inappropriate? So, in other words, they are aware that such methods are often used for spam tracking, and they apparently have reason to be wary of that. For the extra point in this direction, they also block spamgourmet.com.
I’m suspicious

Inappropriate?@Jamie Interesting way of looking at it.
I've put a dot in an odd place in my gmail address instead.
