FedEx claims I'm not at home and can't deliver, but I'm home!
This is a problem that has happened to me and my girlfriend now several times (3 or 4). We will have ordered something online that's shipped FedEx ground, and we'll get an email that there was a "delivery exception," meaning the package couldn't get delivered, and the explanation will be something along the lines of, "Customer not at location." Problem is, one or both of us often work from home, so we know that we were home at the time it supposedly couldn't be delivered. Sometimes there is a FedEx door hanger explaning, sometimes not, but in either case, our buzzer works fine and not only that, our super lives in the building and is always around during the day for deliveries. So something doesn't add up. I double-checked with a shipper just to make sure he had the address right, which he did, and he chalked it up to "lazy FedEx delivery person." I called FedEx's consumer help line and they said that they would check with the delivery hub, but I remain dubious that anything will change.

Inappropriate? This has happened to me twice now within the last 6 months. I order something, track it online, and on the day it goes "out for delivery" I make sure to listen for the doorbell (as I often work from home). At the end of the day there's no package, no note on my door, and the cryptic "delivery exception". FedEx customer service suggested that maybe the note "fell off the door"... yeah right. One package was supposed to be a "guaranteed delivery by Christmas", so of course I showed up for Christmas with no gift. Gee thanks FedEx.

Inappropriate? They totally lied to us by saying we are not at home when my husband and I both came home early from work on different days to receive the package...no knock, no phone call, no tag at the front door. Because of this we have completely stopped using FedEx and are using UPS. Our UPS driver rocks and calls us both to let us know he is dropping off a package or to see if either of us are home (whether the package is going to my husband or me, he calls us both). Try UPS from now on.

Inappropriate? This happened to me over the holidays with the temp drivers. I work from my home and walked by the front door to see a "sticky" on the window about attempted delivery. I also have five dogs. If the doorbell had rung or there was a knock, I would have known. I finally put a sign up saying I AM HOME. RING THE DOORBELL AND WAIT FOR ME TO GET TO THE DOOR. Needless to say, the next two times the temp delivered packages, the doorbell rung and the dogs barked their heads off. When my regular driver came back after the holidays, I told him the story and got quite the eye roll - like this isn't he first time he heard the same story.
I also have a 8.5 x 11 sign on my garage door window stating PLEASE LEAVE ALL PACKAGES AT THE FRONT DOOR. Guess how many drivers follow that one?
I’m disgusted

Inappropriate?I second Tracy's recommendation to put a note on the door to make sure the driver rings the doorbell or knocks on the door.
I have had several problems like this over the years with Fedex and UPS. It seems like the drivers would rather you not be home so they can just leave their 'sticky' and be on the the next house. It's a really poor way of doing things and at times, it forced me to drive into the city to the warehouse to pick up my shipments.
Maybe if these shipping companies based driver performance on how many items are actually delivered to the customer instead of just focusing on speed of the routes, we would actually get our items quicker! -
Inappropriate?I also recommend UPS instead of FedEx. I get perhaps 10 UPS deliveries per month, and have never had any issues, while the 1 or 2 FedEx deliveries I get per month are a constant headache.
My particular FedEx problem is that they refuse to knock on the door if signature is not required. They either leave the package outside or leave a delivery exception notice, without even knocking on the door.
I tried to complain to customer service, but I was told by a FedEx employee that whether to knock on the door or just leave the package outside is "left to the driver's discretion if a signature is not required."

Inappropriate?Early this morning I tracked a FedEx shipment which was shown as "out for delivery." When there was no delivery by 1 pm, I checked again to find that the status was "exception - no attempt made; rescheduled." While delivery tomorrow is still well within the committment, it's a nuisance to hang around in case a signature is required when delivery has been canceled. Apparently FedEx doesn't want cheap shipments to arrive too quickly, so as to avoid eroding the price structure for faster delivery. Meanwhile UPS is eating FedEx's lunch...

Inappropriate?I ordered a $2,500 Dell computer and HD monitor which was suppposed to be delivered on a Friday (according to FedEx's tracking site). I stayed home from work Friday only to find upon checking again that it was reschduled for Saturday. So my husband and I got up early and stayed home and within hearing of the front door all day. Around 2pm I checked the door to find the doortag saying we weren't home. I spent an hour on the phone with customer service trying to get my package. They got a hold of the hub supervisor who said the driver "knocked three times" which is of course not true because we were home and listening for it! Plus we have a perfectly working doorbell that WAS NEVER USED! When I asked them to call back the hub supervisor to tell them we would come pick up the packages at their hub, they suddenly couldn't get a hold of anyone at the hub (this was still during working hours) - apparently nobody answers the phone at the hub when they know someone is calling to complain. Now I have to wait until Tuesday(!) and my husband has to take a day off work to stay home and receive the package. I hate them and will never order anything that is being shipped FedEx.

Inappropriate?I am glad I am not alone in this matter, there is some comfort in solidarity.
My sister sent my wife and I some wine, which requires an adult signature upon delivery. I have had three Delivery Notices and the third was received today, WHILE we were both at home...no knock, or doorbell...made sure to stick a notice on the door though. I called 1-800-go-fedex and was treated like I was at fault, "the driver was there, put a tag on your door..." A bunch of inept morons! -
Inappropriate? This has happened to me TWICE. First with UPS and now with Fedex. I ordered a few items off amazon and chose the 2 day delivery option. My shipment was suppose to arrive today, and I made sure this time that I would be able to hear the doorbell or knock. I even checked the front door every 15 min. Later, I get on the computer to check the tracking and it says the delivery has been attempted?! Are they sending ninjas to deliver these packages?! I'm almost certain that the reason for this is because they don't actually have the package yet and are trying to buy some time by coming up with that bs excuse.
I wouldn't be so pissed off if fedex was honest about the delivery date.

Inappropriate?I HATE HATE HATE Fedex. Like others here, I waited at home all day, always attentive for the bell/buzzer, and nobody came by. I checked online at about 3 in the afternoon, and apparently 20 MINUTES before that a driver had come by and "tried to deliver", There was even a tag on my building door WHICH I LIVE LITERALLY 6 feet from outside my window. But my buzzer had not rung. I don't think they truly tried to deliver, just left the tag and bailed!
Meanwhile, an entire day wasted-- and I can't wait at home all day again, so now I have to go to their pickup facility in THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE (you'd think in Queens, NY there's no such thing, but there is-- Fedex found a place impossible to reach by public transit) and lug it home myself Being a New Yorker, I don't have a car. This shouldn't be my problem-- this is the whole POINT of home delivery!
Not the first time this has happened with this company! It's bad enough when I miss the deliveryman, but when I deliberately STAY HOME to receive a pickup and they don't EVEN TRY, it makes me upset.

Inappropriate?I have the same problem yesterday. The driver just left the tag without knocking or ringing the door bell. Otherwise, she would of known I was home. I complaint like no tomorrow without success. So, I ask to file a formal complaint against the driverwith a copy to the national office and an email copy to me. They made a second attempt on the same day and got my stuff at 5:30pm
They just needs some butt kicking.
