Can't get ubiquity running
I followed the instructions here: http://edwink.devhd.com/2009/01/15/pr... ( except for number 4 , its ctrl + space, isn't it? )
and ... well. I have the ubiquity (beta) installed and it works for everything else, but there are no feedly commands - am I missing something? Do I need to go somewhere to install the feedly commands like it works for other ubiquity commands?
Best wishes,
virelai

Inappropriate? Thanks for the heads. I will try to see if I can carve some time later today to look into this. Otherwise I will take a look on monday. Thanks for the heads up. -Edwin

Inappropriate?Update:
1) you are correct, I will update the post to put control+space).
2) I just tried on one of our QA machines and I am able to run it. Question: I was wondering if you are logged in to feedly because the feedly commands only get registered if you are logged in to feedly.
If that does not address the problem. Can you please take a screenshot of the firefox error console (messages tab and error tag) right after logging into feedly so that we see if there is an error during the feedly initialization process?
Thank you and sorry for the issue. -
Inappropriate?Updated the tutorial to reflect control+space.
-
Inappropriate?I am experiencing the same issue. The only message in my error console that is new since installing feedly is:
"Warning: Use of getPropertyCSSValue() is deprecated. To upgrade your code, use getPropertyValue() instead.
Source File: chrome://browser/content/browser.xul
Line: 0"
I am running the Firefox nightly build (Minefield) as it seems to be more stable on the Mac in practice than the "stable" release. I reset ubiquity, uninstalled both addons, and then reinstalled exactly as described here:
http://blog.feedly.com/2009/01/15/pre...
I then attempted to manually add the command feed @ file:///Users/markkaplan/Library/Application%20Support/Firefox/Profiles/hrjo7c0v.markkaplan/extensions/feedly@devhd/content/app/ubiquity/commands.js to ubiquity but no commands were ever added.
Lastly, I tried a fresh profile with no extensions to no avail.
Let me know if you need anything else. -
Inappropriate? Thanks Mark. Will try to look into this tomorrow. I will make sure that the next patch we are pushing out logs something in the console during the command registration. Which version of ubiquity are you running?
-
Inappropriate?0.2pre10
-
The feedly commands had been working for me but I believe they went away when I upgraded to pre10. -
Inappropriate?I'm having the same problem, also failing to get the feedly minibar unpredictably.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?OK. We will try to see if we can reproduce the problem with 0.2pre10. Will report back this afternoon.
-
thanks! You seem to respond day and night! I keep forgetting you're in a different timezone. -
Inappropriate?Update: I am not able to reproduce this problem but I just pushed out a new patch (1.2.162) which includes the following 2 changes:
1) everytime you restart firefox and log into google/feedly, the feedly extension should log a message letting you know what it registered the feedly commands: [feedly][ubiquity] successfully added feedly commands to ubiquity
(Can you please look in the firefox console and let me know if you are seeing it?)
2) I prefixed all the feedly commands with a feedly-. The previous names of the commands are still there as synonyms.
Can someone please try 1.2.162 and let me know if the problem goes away?
To get 1.2.162, you can restart firefox or manually overwrite:
http://update.feedly.com/release/feed...
Thank you! -
I get:
[feedly][ubiquity] successfully added feedly commands to ubiquity
but also get heaps of errors, and no ubiquity commands
do you want me to send you the full output of my log?
probably best not to post it here... -
Inappropriate?Yes please you can email me the ouput. edwink@devhd.com
Note: only need the output from error and messages tabs. warnings are not useful.
Question: just to be sure, when you type "fee" (no quotes) in the ubiquity input, you do NOT see the list of commands:
-
Inappropriate?I get [feedly][ubiquity] successfully added feedly commands to ubiquity too but still no commands usable.
I'm sending you my logs too. -
Inappropriate?Ok. Can you also please let me know which version of firefox you are running and on what OS? This will help us try to reproduce the problem more effectively.

I have Windows XP , Firefox 3.0.5 -
Now Firefox 3.0.6 , no changes. -
Thanks. Today was a performance day here at feedly so I was now able to find enough cycles to look into this. Will try to drill down into the ubiquity code either tomorrow or Friday the latest. Will update this thread then. -
Inappropriate?is there a quick way to get all the messages, rather than copying and pasting each one from Firefox?
running vista home premium, firefox 3.0.5 -
Usually screenshots are the easiest way to get the information across. -
Inappropriate?I have the same problem reported in this thread. I don't see the feedly ubiquity commands. I just restarted Firefox and there doesn't appear to be any change. I have two errors in my console:
Error: Error opening input stream (invalid filename?)
Source File: file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/PJohnson/Application%20Data/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/sbm9dp8j.default/extensions/ubiquity@labs.mozilla.com/modules/msgservice.js

Inappropriate?Update: started a thread on the ubiquity dev forum:
http://groups.google.com/group/ubiqui...
Will also try in parallel to do a code review of the latest ubiquity changes to see what might be causing the problem. Will update this thread as soon as I have more information. -
Btw, created a clean profile and loaded up just pre9 (from https://ubiquity.mozilla.com/xpi/0.2p...) and feedly and didn't have any luck.
I rarely use the error console and also ask if there is a good way to get all the contents? Hate to do a series of screen captures. -
Inappropriate?Update: Good news. I am able to reproduce the problem..so it should be much easier to try to fix it. I will let you know as a made progress through debugging the code.
