Extension not installing on Firefox 3
I can't get the Firefox extension to install. I'm running RC3, but it's a no go. I allow Firefox to access the XPI, but when I authorize installation I just get a blank window. Upon restart...NO FEEDLY.
I’m not having any success.

OK. We found the root cause of the problem. There seems to be a bug in firefox regarding sending cookies during HTTP requests if the "accept third party cookies is unset".
So the solution if you want to try feedly is to:
1. Go to firefox > preferences > privacy
2. Check the "Accept third party cookies"
3. Click on the feedly button on the toolbar
And everything else should work normally.
Sorry for the inconvenience. We are going dig deeper in the firefox code and see what is the best way to work around this problem.

After the install, firefox should ask you to restart the browser. After the restart, you should see a round feedly button on your firefox toolbar as well as a first run screen. If you do not see any of those, could you please look at the firefox error console (menu> tools > error console and see if you see any feedly messages in the error and message section? (the warnings messages are not relevant). If you want help troubleshooting this live, my yahoo IM and skype ids are khodabakchian.

Inappropriate?Alright, I've managed to solve this problem. Apparently, the install won't work if Firefox is installed to the old Mozilla Firefox 3 Beta 5 folder. This is true EVEN if you've updated Firefox to RC3.
I uninstalled FF3 (making sure I kept my profile data) and reinstalled RC3 into a fresh, clean Firefox 3 Folder. Voila, I installed the Feedly extension and it worked fine.

Note: I think that the reason why creating a new profile addressed this problem is that Third Party Cookies are allows by default in the browser. So OLD profile + changing manually firefox to allow third party cookies should have worked as well. -
Inappropriate?yeah I have the same problem, it says its installed, but I have no button, I even looked in View>Toolbars>Customize to see if it was in there but I don't see it at all

Failed to load XPCOM component: C:\Documents and Settings\Jared\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\u0vj6bw2.default\extensions\feedly@devhd\components\nsIFeedlyBoot.idl is a misleading error from firefox. This error is sometimes raised for non native XPI component.
Can you please try Marshall's trick: create a new profile from scratch and install feedly in it and see if the installation works that way? Another thing that might help could be to download the .xpi on your disk and drag and drop it on a firefox window. -

Inappropriate?hi everyone. There seems to be 2 issues in this thread.
issue #1 is [reader][0001] failed to get initial list of unread counts because Failure: 401 -- undefined.
We are are trying to find a way to reproduce this so that we can resolve it. We have a post on our blog tracking our progress.
issue #2 is failing to install the plugin (ie not being able to see the feedly round rss button on the browser after the restart. If someone runs into this, can you please look in the firefox console: firefox > tools > error console and see if you see any feedly related messages in the error and messages section? (the warning session is nothing to worry about).

I have the second problem. The extension has installed and I can see a blue round button on the top task bar but it does nothing when I click it.....I can see no Feedly error messages in the error console...

Actually if the feedly is an orange button then I see no buttons and FF just opens with my usual set of tabs. Also, if I look at the installed addons...there is no record of Feedly there ????

Mike. If there is not feedly add-on listen on tools > add-ons > extension, it means that there is a problem during the installation of the add on. Which version of firefox are you using. Can you please try: 1. download the feedly.xpi to your machine from http://update.feeddo.com/release/feed... and 2. drag and drop the downloaded xpi into a firefox window. and 3. restart firefox

Edwin, I am using the final released V3.0 version of FF. I have already tried exactly what you asked and to no avail...nothing in the browser toolbar and nothing in the Addon Manager...how is this possible ??

Mike: can you please try this:
1. point your browser to http://update.feeddo.com/release/feed...
2. confirm the installation of the browser.
3. restart the browser when the installation is done
4. If you do not see a round orange icon, try to go directly to:
chrome://feedly/content/app/feedly.htm#my
You should be able to put the icon back by going to firefox>view>toolbar>customize

If you run into this problem, it would be helpful if you could let us know if you have a gmail account and if the id of the gmail account and google account are the same (we are still trying to find the combination which is causing this problem). This sounds similar to what I'm experiencing now. I just upgraded to FF3 and installed Feedly. It was confusing at first to know what Feedly was supposed to do because the button was a regular RSS button, but I understand that's what Feedly looks like now.
The problem, however, is that when I click on that button I'm taken to Google Accounts and asked to login. Is this the proper behavior? -
mark: yes. feedly uses Google as it authentication provider this way people who have a Google Account do not need to create yet another account. Here is the intro page which should have popup the first time you install feedly: chrome://feedly/content/app/firstrun.htm

You can try this:
stop the browser
delete all extentions.something files in [your firefox profile folder]
delete [your firefox profile folder]/extensions/feedly@devhd
restart the browser
re-install feedly from http://www.feedly.com -

OUCH! Accepting third party cookies is security risk. But it does gives us a work-around until this bug is squashed.

The strange part is that this is the default setting for Firefox new profiles created with Firefox 3.0

Inappropriate?mark as solved. the next step is to drill down in firefox code and understand why the Accept third party cookies interferes with core extensions making HTTP requests. That sounds like a firefox 3 bug.
