Feedly Digest Debugger
We recently pushed out a new version of the recommendation engine which powers the digest page. Our goal was to reduce the memory footprint while increasing the relevance. We have made good progress on the memory front (divided by 5). We have built a debugger to help get your feedback on the relevance side.
What you see here is a list of articles published by the sites you subscribe to in feedly as well as some of the metadata we have collected about them. In blue are the articles selected by the recommendation engine.
If you have any questions regarding the metadata or the selection process, we have created this thread to try to address them.
We are also interested in suggestions on how to improve the recommendation logic so if you see interesting articles in this list that are not in blue, take a screenshot and post a comment, specifying which article you would have selected and optionally metadata that you think we could use to formalize that selection.
Thank you!

Inappropriate? This post http://blog.feedly.com/2009/04/14/fee... includes a screenshot of what the debugger looks like.

Inappropriate?Q: What is "Must Read"?
A: A source is considered a must read if: 1) that source is marked as favorite, 2) the source has less than 25 unread articles and 3) the user has shared 4 or more articles from that sources. This is our way to try to determine which of your favorite sources you really love to read.
Note: in the debugger, if you hover over a subscription name, you should get a tooltip with three numbers. The first number is the unread count, the second is the #shared count. We are exploring with the idea of limiting the number of shared to the last 30 days to have a more recent representation of the user tastes. -
Inappropriate?Edwin: is it possible to generate this list? rank my Feedly feeds by times shared
-
Inappropriate? Also: 1. rank my Feedly feeds by times saved 2. rank my Feedly feeds by times shared and saved
-
Inappropriate?Edwin: does Feedly take any account of the number of times that items in feeds are read, clicked through, emailed, tweeted, bookmarked on Delicious, etc.?
-
Inappropriate?Edwin: a thought has crossed my mind: what if "save/star" were changed to "like"? What if one could boost the value of a feed for one's personal relevancy every time one clicked "like" for an item in that feed? One doesn't necessarily want to share all the items that one likes, but the "like" information is useful for improving one's personal relevancy algorithm.
-
Inappropriate? This list would also be useful: rank my Feedly feeds by percentage of items shared (sorry for the suggestion overload)
-
Inappropriate? Thanks for all the suggestions. I am going to queue these up in the product roadmap so that we can take them into consideration next time we re-iterate on the digest. As of monday, most of the team will be focusing on feedly mobile for 4-8 weeks to see if we can deliver a first version of the feedly for iphone. Summary: we continue to love feedback but we might be a little less responsive in the next 2 months.
