foisting feeds and not searching bookmarks is dishonest
hi - just installed and uninstalled feedly - asked it to search my bookmarks and history - and all i got was cooking and business pages! rather surprising as most of my bookmarks and history are arts, pron and geek stuff!!
so - dunno if that was the intention - but just seemed like i was having stuff pushed onto me you wanted me to see, forcing me to manually customise everything by deleting whatever you want to sell to me, and taking the time to add one-by-one what i had already bookmarked and the search missed.
so .. sticking with current rss reader with already personally customised zillions of feeds .. which works fine ... just misses some atom feeds!
thanks anyway.
christ - then i gotta create an account and log in and post feedback! can you say that please BEFORE you invite feedback?!?! geezuz

Inappropriate?also don't appreciate what it's done to google reader.
thanks feedly for stuffing it all up.
I’m furious

Inappropriate?Hello. Very sorry for the frustration.
it is definitely not our intention to push feeds on people. The only reason/case we do this is when the bookmarks extraction process is not able to find enough feeds (20 or less). In that case, instead of leaving the user with an "empty" experience, we try to add some of the best sources in some generic categories, hoping to create a better experience.
So the question is: why was the feedly bookmark extraction not able to detect the feeds associated with your bookmarks and load them up. If you are willing to email me a copy of your bookmarks to edwink@devhd.com, I will try to debug and see what might be causing the problem.
Also you mentioned that you have another RSS reader. If so and if you are able to export an OPML from that tool, then you can go to reader.google.com > setting, unsubscribe from all the feeds feedly welcome added, import the OPML and restart firefox and you should see in that case all your feed.
Looking forward to learning from this bad experience and improve the welcome process for other users. -
Inappropriate?Update: did a new iteration on the welcome process. Now all the bookmarks are organized in a bookmark tag and the bookmark folder is the first folder on the navigation bar. This way it will be clear to the users that 1) feedly is doing its best effort to find RSS feeds based on bookmarks and navigation history and 2) the additional feeds are only added if less than 25 bookmarks are discovered.
Note: if you go to the dashboard (pen icon), you can easily drag and delete the added categories. -
thanks edwk for making it clearer for future users, I think it's important to make these clear and up front.
I won't email my bookmarks - they're just like any other bookmarks in firefox in a range of nested folders.
my solution to the google reader stuff up was just to create another google account and start again.
thanks again for listening and acting - it's a rare thing to see these days and I do appreciate it!
