mark as read when scroll past
I'm a user of the google reader option "In expanded view, mark items as read when you scroll past them." Is there a way to do this in feedly?
btw: great service and superb reaction to our feedback!

Inappropriate? Thanks. re: mark as read on scroll: we do not support this feature. Would you consider yourself a hardcore RSS reader or a more casual RSS reader?
-
Inappropriate?Well, than takes this as a suggestion ;-)
I've got at the moment 316 Feeds, so I assume I'm a "hardcore" reader. -
Inappropriate? Thanks for the insight. We are definitely listening. The reason I am asking is that our experience is that hardcore RSS users *love* the productivity of Google Reader and it is not an area where there is room for competition: Google Reader is just too good. What we are trying to do is package some of the goodness of RSS and social sharing in a package that could be accessible by more mainstream users. Not the same tradeoffs and unfortunately, some features which would make the hard core users more productive, end up making the interface a little harder to understand and use by more mainstream users. Auto-mark as read on scroll is probably somewhere in the middle. I will pass the feedback to the team and we will try to see if there is a way to put it in so advanced users can leverage it but it is transparent to the core userset.
Thanks again for the time to submit this feedback. Much appreciated. -
would automatically marking as read when you move the highlight box onto an article be considered a "hardcore" feature or wouldn't it be sort of expected? or in other words, if you highlight the box, to read it, shouldn't it get marked as read? -
n8k99. right now, if you just click on the article snippet or article body, the article gets selected and if it stays selected for 1 sec (configurable in preferences) it gets marked as read. Is that similar to what you are suggesting? if not can you please let me know how your suggestion is different so that we can look into it? thanks, -
Inappropriate?that's interesting.
From my point of view feedly is a very good way for power users to see what's hot at the moment. In Google Reader when I login I see 500 new items sorted by date. Not so good. -
Inappropriate?I'm a hardcore RSS reader (upwards of 400 feeds currently) and the "mark read while scrolling" feature is my favourite part of Google Reader. I do like the aesthetic of Feedly, but I wish it would allow more aggressive "mark as read" functionality as it is rather tedious to keep clicking "mark as read" when quickly reading in list format.
I’m disappointed.

Hi Veer. Sorry to disappoint. The current goal of the feedly experiment is to try to see if we can get more mainstream users excited about RSS and social filtering so although mark as read while you scroll is on the feature list it never made it to the top. I am not sure if/when it will make it. The only work around I can think of is to use keyboard to jump between articles as the keyboard selection will automatically marked articles as read after 350ms (configurable in preferences). Thanks for the feedback. -
Edwin,
Thanks for the response. I tried the shortcut you mentioned and I like how the entries get marked read quickly. As I play around in Feedly, I'm sure I'll adjust to how it runs things. I am already pleased with the look; it is visually very appealing.
