Need to scroll horizontally with the new "wide layout"... grrrr.
Please allow "wide mode" to work at around 1070px wide without needing horizontal scrolling!
Ok nobody likes change but this new layout has some serious usability issues that really need addressing.
The most critical is that now using "wide mode" I have to horizontal scroll to actually see the right hand column. Using narrow mode is not an option because it is basically useless and would be a huge regression since the previous layout.
My setup: 1280 x 1024 screen (MacBook 13") using Firefox. When I have nothing open in the FF "sidebar" then feedly displays fine in "wide mode" but I use the sidebar a lot (especially for "tree style tabs") and when the sidebar is open I suddenly need to scroll horizontally to see the content of the right hand column.

After a 30 hour code marathon, we have extended the behavior from 2 modes to 3 modes: narrow, medium and wide. Medium is optimized for 1024 width and should address the problems reported on this thread. The changes are included in the 1.2.283 patch we just pushed out so you should be able to try the 3 mode transition next time you restart firefox. Thanks for the feedback.

Inappropriate?I was happy to see that there is option to choose "wide mode" on smaller screens but a minute later... I was not happy anymore ;(
I was sure that setting this pereference for wide mode to 1000px will display mode with right column but "squeezed" to chosen width.
I meen that this layout will have left and right column plus just narrower central space...
Horizontal scrolling is not a good idea at all :(
"Please allow "wide mode" to work at around 1070px wide without needing horizontal scrolling!"
I would change it...to please make it work for 1024x768 :)
I’m sad

Inappropriate?Hi edwk.. thanks so much for the attention to this. The solution you guys coded sure is an interesting one!
So what we have now is three modes.... narrow mode, medium (the old default skin by the looks of things?) and wide mode. I guess for me this at least solves the problem of horizontal scrolling but it seems odd to have three such different layouts depening on screen width!
Is it not possible just to keep the same (new) layout for all browser widths but shrink/grow the centre section (and also scale the thumbnails) depending on available width?
I’m undecided

Inappropriate? So what is narrow mode now for? For screens with less than 1024px? Is it still just wide mode without right column (cause I can't see it) ?
And what's the point of "Narrow/Wide Switch Point " right now? Is there any use for it now?

narrow allows to reduce the amount of information displayed and focus all your attention on the content. That preference is not longer used in this new iteration and we will removed in 1.2.284 -
Inappropriate?Ok, I understand but in this case if screen is so narrow and you want to have more space for content much more logical would be make "narrow mode " as "medium mode" just without right sidebar.
You want to save space cause screen is small, reduce amount of information and in the same time you loose a lot of space using left column.
Honestly, more reasonable would be
1) WIDE screen = new layout with left sidebar + right sidebar
2) MEDIUM screen = old top bar + right sidebar
3) NARROW screen = just old top bar
At least in top bar you always have all your categories, and when you have just left sidebar, without right one it is really difficult to access some categoriesA
