UI inconsistencies
Some UI inconsistencies that needs your attention:
* Unrelated actions on the same field, hard to differ *
Green line: Sharing
Red line: Arrangement
* Duplicated button behaviors *
Pink circle: both hides
Orange circle: both sharing, one with comment (should be streamlined)
When I preview an article, and then decide to share it, should I go back to the main page and do so, or couldn't I just do it from the Preview window?
Thanks!

Inappropriate?moving the buttons to the frame and integrating the preview window could solve both problems
-
Alvaro, do you have a sketch/screenshot of what you mean? -
Inappropriate?I'll try to explain it better. What I meant was moving all the action links and buttons to the grey frame in the top and when the preview link was clicked replace the article with the preview (maybe replacing the actions with more relevant ones too and turning the frame black). I hope I explained better now, but I could try to make some mock ups if you need them
-
Inappropriate?Alvaro, I think that I understand what you mean. The challenge is that we need a UI which works also when people are using the "entire content inlined" mode or look at a single entry so moving everything to the frame does not completely address the problem.
What we have been trying to do is look at the actions people to most often: share, save for later and tweet and make them as easy as possible.
But I agree that over time, as we added more thing, it looks a little messy. I will try to see if there is a way to better represent and group things.
Let me know if you have suggestions.
Note: zkaka, there should have been a share option in the preview dialog before the save for later. I will try to see why it is missing. -
about the sharing link on the preview window - it disappeared after i clicked it. only i was talking about the entire sharing options- mail/twitter/delicious/etc -
Inappropriate?Ok...we cleaned up a little bit the UI for the entry view. We will try in a couple of weeks to re-iterate on the preview. Here is what we settled on:

The logic for the order is a little complicated. It is a mix of types of actions combined with how often the user takes that action.
Anyway..not 100% satisfied with the result but it is better than it was before so I think that with a few more iterations we will get there.
Note: we are doing in the next couple of weeks a big push re: facebook integration and that might change things as well.
Thank you for all the feedback and suggestions.
I’m thankful

Hey Alvaro - nice mock up, I was thinking about a similar theme myself. the logic is that window-centric actions should appear ON the window, and sharing-related links will be separate. You should decide only one way of displaying "sharing links" (The hand button for "sharing" and the "+" button for "saving for later" doesn't follow the rest in that sense).
About making the title look like a link - I fear that by making it "highlighted" like regular html link with underline, it might ruin feedly esthetically. but I'm not sure about that.
You're right about removing subscription related actions from article frame, only the "Blog" should be some kind of link (link to what? subscription page? action list?)
I think frame borders right now looks nice. It should be left for future Themes. -
Inappropriate? What I mean with make the title look like a link is make it look like other feedly links, not a standard HTML link. A benefit of making the title look like a link is that the 'copy link' action wouldn't be needed anymore, as people would know they can copy the link right-clicking the title (or I hope so :P)
-
Inappropriate?Another design I just made that would solve both this and this. The toolbar is attached to the left or right border like a rail and will move trough the border as you scroll down (or up).
-
Inappropriate?:-) Thank you for the design help! I think that both suggestions include some great positive points. I am going to need a couple days to digest them and get back to you. My initial impression is that the horizontal list of actions is easier to scan and more consistent. Looking forward to seeing what other people think about these and how they could evolve.
