What is up with the recent changes... Why so many all of a sudden.

Yes i'm answering my own question but it is a question many people have been asking me privately via email and through the comment system.

So lets start with why we changed. The first reason is that flickaday was starting to dwindle. People just seem to be losing interest. In an effort to get more interest in the site, many new features and a new way about thinking of the site was the intent. This hopefully will make the site more engaging for existing and new users.

The second reason is that the site was getting too complicated. There were too many permission settings and preferences. The whole idea of flickaday when we first started was to offer a simple service. The service was anything but and I feel like it was alienating new users.

Third we have switched technology stacks from php to ruby on rails. This will allow us to more easily maintain and create new features as well as meet future demands. We also moved the site over to better infrastructure. The code still needs work so that the site loads quickly but you should notice that images load very quickly now no matter where you are geographically. So those are the reasons for the change.

There has been a lot of chatter in the community about how much people hate the new flickaday. Well that can't be further from what I was trying to accomplish, so I invite you to voice your opinion on this forum. Please be kind, as flickaday is a small site completely maintained by me that's right one person who is trying his best to provide a useful service.

I quit using Flickaday because with the new changes I say yes to allow my webcam to be turned on, the indicator light flashes a few seconds then turns off. Therefore I cannot take a picture to post - my main way of doing it for months without a problem.

I say your post on the other thread and will see what I can do to address the problem.
