Add "Movies I haven't seen" (Movies I Haven't Rated Yet) as a filter
Sometimes I get sick of just "sorting" the same movies in my list. A great filter would just give me movies I haven't rated yet. Maybe at least one movie I haven't rated yet.

Inappropriate? The system's meant to start slowly with the most popular (well-known, not necessarily best-loved) movies so that new users don't have to hit Haven't Seen for everything, and introduce new movies into your pool as you rank more. If you're still at the low end, or alternately if you're at the very high end, it's possible that it can seem stagnant for a little while.
What's your username on the site? Or alternately, how many rankings do you have? I can check out what's going on there and maybe tune the algorithm a little if it seems like an across-the-board problem.
Aside from me trying to fix the general issue (which I want to do), have you used the existing filters (on the dark brown bar just above the matchup)? Sounds like you're familiar with their existence, but just checking. If you switch to particular genres or decades, for instance, I'm pretty confident you'll start seeing some movies you haven't ranked before.
Let me know how it goes.
Your filter idea (only movies you haven't seen) is a good one either way -- we'll definitely look into implementing that. Thanks for the suggestion!

Yeah, I guess that kind of came across more as a complaint about a stale stream of movies when It's not so much that this has ever been an issue but more that I was just in the mood to rate fresh movies for a while. I don't know if maybe other people might too? I could also see how adding a large number of movies very quickly would make your personal rating take much longer to sort themselves out though.
I have used the filters and definitely like the feature, I guess I have noticed I get a lot of new movies when I use filters but I never thought about using them for that purpose in particular.
The prompt feedback was great. Love the site, I've thought someone should do something like this for the longest time so cool to see it in action. -
Inappropriate?Hey, no problem. There's stuff to complain about anyway, so that's cool. Even once it's not in beta anymore and we lose that handy excuse (darn), there'll still be plenty that needs to be fixed, tweaked, and changed. We're realistic about its faults, since we want to have fun with the thing, too (if only it would stop making me rank The Terminator).
We've got an Unranked filter in our mockups as we speak, and it's not a challenging feat, so I think you'll be seeing that in the near future.
And yes, you're right that there's a trade-off between variety and list resolution, but at least with the new filter the user will have more control over that. I'm wary of overcomplicating the UI and scaring users away from the filters due to the complexity, but we'll see how it rides. Sometimes that's the only way to do it. -
Inappropriate?I don't know how much more difficult this would make the programming, but I'd like to see a filter where one of the films is ranked and the other isn't. That way I can rank things I haven ranked before, but they're still compared to something in my list.

Inappropriate?Just following up here that our "Unranked" filter is now in place, in case you hadn't seen it already.
