Inappropriate?Absolutely :) We're getting there, but trying to make the core services better before we branch out to the API point, but we hope to get there soon. It's something that's practically begging for gadgets.
Thanks for all the suggestions. :) -
Inappropriate?Let us get the data out of the silo. Since you're likely to be the first in the movie space just go for it.
Why? Some references :

I have not joined any movie sites (despite being a movie fan) because taking the effort to rate, rank & review movies is wasted unless I can get it back out - share it with friends, share it with other sites.
The first site I find that does this is the one that gets my data first.
Last.fm have done a pretty good job with this, although it is *much* easier for us to upload data to them (because the software just snoops on everything we listen to.) Nonetheless http://www.last.fm/widgets & http://www.last.fm/api might be a great place to get some, err, inspiration :-)
I’m excited

Thanks for the links, and your thoughts. We've been developing the site from the ground up based on web services, and we definitely plan on allowing access to user data via an API. Last.fm's API, and FriendFeed.com's API are both great examples of returning specific data via XML - so that will most likely be the route we'll take when we develop our own system.
Thanks! -

aDB, I built a site for me and my friends to rank our movies. If you want to add your rankings, I would be willing to send you the raw data in CSV format. If I had a Java Application server to run my site on, then I would create an export option. My only other option would be to give you the ability to output the raw data directly to the browser so that you could just save it as a text file. I am using php for the first time, and it seems a bit unreliable when trying to execute a hundred updates statements at the same time, but the site works well enough. Here is my site if you are interested: http://ketsuen.atwebpages.com/movies.... -
Inappropriate?Specifically, I would like to be able to get a little snippet of html/javascript that I can paste into my website/blog/etc. and then format myself with CSS.

Tim - me too. :) Sharing your charts and favorites is essential to what our site is all about and we are definitely planning to create multiple ways for you to do just that. We'll get around to it eventually - don't worry. :)
