Movie Basement
In going through my rankings and trying to tidy them up, I found quite a few movies that I'd rather not even bother ranking. Movies I wished I could say I've never seen. So, what I suggest is that you be allowed to put these sorts of movies in an un-ranked group that I like to call the Movie Basement. And, just like users can see how many users have a film in their top 20s or in their top spot, users could see how many films consider it worthy of the Movie Basement. What do you think?

Inappropriate? In the past we've put aside the "I hate it" concept for saying particular movies are so bad you never want to rank them again, because it sidesteps the one-on-one ranking mechanism of the site. In theory, the ranking system should be able to tell you your least favorite movies as well as your favorite ones... but since no one spends much time at the bottom of their list, it's not as effective in practice. We're working on ways to address that.
I actually think the notion of a "Movie Basement" is pretty cool. In the near future we're going to let you create custom lists of your own that as you rank you can add movies to. We'll probably start with a few built-in ones, and the Movie Basement concept could be one of them. I agree that it's pretty cool to be able to see not just the movies a user loves, but those s/he deems to be among the worst dregs of all time.
Thanks for the suggestion!

Inappropriate? This way you could also see how many "good" films a user actually thinks that she or he has watched. For example, I have seen around 950 films that are in the current database, but say I can have two "built-in" lists, like My Favorite Films and My Basement Films, and in the former I have 700 and in the latter I have 250. This would show my friends that I have seen more "good" movies as opposed to "bad" movies and can look at My Basement and see what I have in there. This would also allow me to rank THOSE films that I never rank because they are so low on my list, and I can have my All Time Favorite WORST films so people could see my best-worst films and my worst-worst films :D

Inappropriate?I feel the custom lists would be a good feature and fix, so long as the custom lists can be used as optional filters when ranking on the home page. If that were the case, clearing up the mess at the bottom of your rankings would be rather simple, as Abe said.
It kind of ties into something I suggested before, which is to allow us to choose more specific filters such as having the match-ups all come from a particular area of your list, 100-200 for example. Imagine the two of these implemented together. It'd make it a lot easier on users when it comes to tidying up their lists.
