I think the button should stay where it is.
Often, I've found that I will rank a movie, only to realize I haven't actually seen that movie (i.e., I'd confused it with a different movie). I usually don't realize this until the second or third time it's presented to me as an option, so I think the ability to change our mind and label a movie as unseen is important.

Inappropriate?Good suggestion... I could see maybe graying it out and making it unclickable if you've already ranked it. That would keep the interface from appearing and disappearing, but still achieve the intended result. Thanks!
-
Inappropriate? Also it would be good if it didn't appear when I choose to rate my top X movies
-
Inappropriate? But should always be on the Movie Overview page, where it is not atm.
-
Inappropriate?I'm actually a little surprised about this one, not that I think it's at all a bad thing. I could see us fretting over it as an academic issue (it's how it *should* properly be), but I figured users would generally just ignore them and move on. But it's by far the most popular idea!
I'm looking into the best way to do it right now. Hopefully it won't be too much longer before we can check this one off.
Out of curiosity, do you all want to get rid of them to avoid accidental clicks? Or just because you think it's dumb to have them there because they shouldn't be there? :)
And Michael, yes. Both the button on the movie info page and the functionality to drop the movie from your list altogether, which currently doesn't work, will be live soon. -
I've miss clicked it several times and then had to find it and re-rate the movie. Also it obviously makes no sense. -
Inappropriate? That's what I thought, Robert, thanks. And yeah, obviously it makes no sense.

From what I've seen, it doesn't care if you click "haven't seen" on something you previously ranked. It certainly doesn't remove it from your list. If anything, having the button greyed out would alert you that you already ranked it, so you could go to that movie's page and manually remove your rankings from it. -
Inappropriate?Sandy, yeah, we have quite the carnival of consensus on that point in another thread -- disabling or vanishing the haven't seen buttons in that scenario is the most popular suggestion of anything so far. We're leaning toward disabling them, conveying the point but without causing too much flux in the UI on a matchup-by-matchup basis.
I originally programmed it this way to err on the side of caution, but it's definitely backfired due to the sheer ease of accidentally misclicking a few times.
For both of you, as well as anyone else facing this issue, the way to take care of the problem for those particular movies in the meantime is to click on them in your list (or do a search) to get to the movie's info page, and then click the link near the top to remove them from your Flickchart.
We're hoping to have the button disabling on the home page done very soon.
Thanks for the addition! -
I also accidentally clicked "Haven't seen" twice, and skipped a movie I had seen. This is my issue with the system. Not to mention if I DO see the movie this past weekend and decide I want to rank it today. -
Matthew,
You can rank any movie any time by using the Search (in top right) to go to that movie's information page. There will be a link to rank it from there. There's also a list of all the movies you've marked "haven't seen" on your profile page (you can get to it by clicking your username or avatar in the top right), You can click "I've Seen It" for any of your unseen movies to rank those immediately. You can also completely remove a movie from your Flickchart from the movie's information page too. -
Thank you, I'm glad this got added. I'm new to the service (As of last night). -
Inappropriate? If you press "haven't seen" accidentally, just press the undo button and the movie will come back up again.
-
Inappropriate?I DO NOT want this button removed. I've accidentally clicked and ranked movies I haven't seen and PREFER to be able to remove them when they come back up in comparisons. Please just leave it alone.

Unless they've changed something recently (and I don't think they have), clicking "haven't seen" for a movie that you previously ranked does *not* remove it from your rank list. So, it doesn't make any sense to keep the button active if you've already ranked it, since it doesn't do anything but skip ranking it again. (which you can do by reloading the page, if you want to). To un-rank a movie you accidentally ranked previously, go to that movie's page and click the "remove from my list" button.
