Allow downloading originals for only some contacts/some photos
Can I let ONLY friends or ONLY family download my original photo? How about creating a custom group where I select only certain users who can download my originals? And what if I want to allow downloading originals only for a specific photo?
I've been using flickr for only a few months, and already had a need for these come up many times. For example, by default, I'd like to allow only for my family to download the originals, but not friends. Sometimes, I'd like to allow a certain friend to get some original photos I took of them at a party. It's frustrating because currently I'm forced to deny anyone this privilege due to flickr's current options (friends and family are grouped together, and there's no way to specify individual contacts). So currently, I'm forced to either email the requested photos out to people, or FTP them to my own server and let them download it from there because the photos are naturally large in size and not a lot can be emailed at a time.
Please consider giving us the option to create custom groups of contacts and allow custom permissions per photo.

Inappropriate?If you friend is already a member of flickr go here (http://www.flickr.com/account/prefs/d...) and set Your Friends and/or Family.
If they are not:
1) Create a Set with the photos you want to share.
2) Set those pictures Private: You Only
Optionally Set license to creative commons*
3) On the set page click Share This... Add Guest Pass: Private Photos... email/grab link (tell your friend to bookmark it).
The link is vaild until you revoke it at: http://www.flickr.com/invite/history/...
* If you're global setting (http://www.flickr.com/account/prefs/d...) is not to allow full downloads, you will need to set those specific picture to a creative commons license to allow full size download.

Yes, the above is true for letting BOTH family and friends download your photos. But in the question I'm asking for specifically only ONE group - only friends OR only family, not both. Also, asking for letting only individual users download - not ALL friends and not ALL family -
Inappropriate?I had the same goal. I think I achieved the first part of your inquiry in a somewhat roundabout way: I put the items that I ONLY wanted FAMILY download in a set. I made this set visible only to contacts who are FAMILY. Then, (since it is the only option offered) I set it to allow FRIENDS and FAMILY to download the items in the set. This way, even though I had to set it so FRIENDS and FAMILY can download, in reality only FAMILY can download because only FAMILY can see this set in the first place. It's silly to have to go through these steps, but it works.
