Inappropriate?the old themes don't seem to work anymore. any news on when and if, themes will be provided?
-
Themes, at the moment, are not going to be supported in Flock. We think themes are awesome, but we simply don't have the manpower to work on these at this moment. Res assured that customization of future versions of Flock is a high priority.

Inappropriate?Well, there are only two themes listed, those shouldn't take "manpower"... can we get Dublin ported at least? Smaller, more streamlined icons, you know - tablets and netbooks have little extra desktop area to waste... Pretty please...? :)
-
It's actually a surprisingly large amount of work to get these themes ported to 2.5 - the underlying theme changes have made these break. I'll keep pushing to get them ported, but I suspect it's more likely you'll see a new type of Flock styling before you'll see these working.

Inappropriate?Have you had a chance to fix the Craigslist search bug?
Any search results from Craigslist defaults to the SF Bay area CL regardless of my cookie which works just fine when I go to craigslist.org (correct NYC area comes up.) -

szlevi and EM,
An enhancement bug was already filed here: https://bugzilla.flock.com/show_bug.c...
In the meantime, please take a look at:
http://mycroft.mozdev.org/search-engi...
There might be a local Craigslist search engine that you could add to Flock.
Thanks,
Sophie -
Inappropriate?Personally I like Dublin's look but more importantly it works better on my tablet when it comes to space-savings - if no chance for themes then let's include at least one "minimalist" styling to help netbook users...
-
Inappropriate? Thanks a lot for the new version!
Flock v. 2.5 was easy to download and install right over the previous version 2.0.3. Believe it or not, but all my 42 Firefox' extensions are now working as well as in the previous version. No hassle at all! ( Before I had the Dublin theme, but I have now to accept the Default theme; no big deal! )
"Help" -> "About Flock" is showing, that it is based upon Gecko /2009051221 & Firefox 3.0.10, so regarding safety/security Flock is now in par with Firefox, I assume! Well done!
I have not studied the new features yet, but soon I will!

I’m really thankful!
-
Inappropriate?That's odd.
When I "Check for Updates" it tells me "there are no new updates" - yet I am still on "version 2.0.3" (as shown in my "Help/About").
Further, when I use independent sources, my SUMo tells me I'm on 1.9.0.3272 and there is nothing newer - my UpdateNotifier from cleansofts.org tells me (correctly!?) I'm on 2.0.3, but there's a new 2.5 available - while my FileHippo UpdateChecker doesn't even recognise I have Flock (the dumb thing also never finds my AVG and a couple of others too).
So - who/what do I believe ? (I'd have thought the ULTIMATE answer would always come from the actual Check For Updates built in to a program - but seems not, with Flock !?!)
I’m indifferent
-
SUMo, UpdateNotifier, FileHippo UpdateChecker... I'm speechless. -
Inappropriate?Hi Eagle_Kiwi,
Evan has written on another thread, that when the v.2.5 has been thoroughly investigated, the new version will soon be available via "Check for Updates". I could not wait, so I made a Norton Ghost of my C-drive, and then I visited the site: http:/www.flock.com/ and downloaded the v.2.5 from there and saved it on my disk. In my v.2.0.3 I changed my theme "Dublin" into the "Default" theme first. Then I installed v.2.5 right over the existing v.2.0.3 without any problems at all! ( see my earlier reply on this thread ).
FileHippo UpdateChecker has not recognized the new version of Flock, but CNET ( download.com ) recognized it a few hours ago with a long description. I advise you to be a member in CNET and mark all softwares, that you want to have info regarding updates. CNET will then send updates of softwares by email to you!

I’m confident, that you will make it! Do not forget to make a copy first!!
-
TYVM, Goran - as I value your ideas I will indeed check out Cnet. -
While sweidre's instructions are not inaccurate at all, they're a bit more in-depth than is needed for the average user. If you'd like to upgrade you can:
1. Backup your profile folder
2. Download the 2.5 installer from http://www.flock.com
3. Run it!
Auto-updates will hopefully be enabled within the next few weeks.

Inappropriate?I dont like this version either I am not able to go 1 day without having problems with the flock favorites. This version sucks. They need to go back to the drawing board.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Hey mikey,
I haven't heard any other issues with favorites and we didn't make any changes to the favorites code, so hopefully you have a very specific bug we can solve.
First: what kind of issues are you seeing exactly?
Evan Hamilton

Inappropriate?Well,
I, for one, will stick with v2, mostly due to various bugs and the lack of Dublin theme.
FF 3.5 is around the corner, Flock must follow it few weeks later, I guess.
I’m indifferent
-
Inappropriate?Hey szlevi,
I'm not going to force you to do anything, but here are some facts:
1. I have read content (tweets, comments, blog posts, support posts) from hundreds of people using 2.5, and have seen bugs (like the ones above) reported by less than five. This is not a buggy version - there are just a few folks who have something up with their particular profile.
2. Flock 2.0.3 does not have the latest Firefox code, and thus is not as secure. Staying on it puts you at risk.
3. Auto-updates from 2.0.3 to 2.5 will be out in a few weeks.
4. "A few weeks later" is probably an ambitious timeframe for us to move to the Firefox 3.5 technology...for that big of an update we have to spend a lot of time building and QAing. If you wait for that, your browser will not be secure for some time.
Feel free to wait until auto-updates are out, but I highly recommend that you do not purposefully stay on Flock 2.0.3.

Inappropriate?ok I have had to reinstall Flock 2.5 for 2 days now because when I go to import my Favorites from other browsers my Flock Favorites are being deleted except for Flocks website. I dont know why this is happening. Why is this version so buggy? I like it because you can chat in facebook while browsing other sites.
I’m concerned about this
-
Hey mikey,
We've been trying to reproduce your issue here but haven't had any luck. Do you have any favorites-related extensions installed by any chance?

Inappropriate?Sadly "no good deed goes unpunished", right?
Thanks for the great job, guys :D
Flock rocks
I’m thankful
-
Inappropriate?Everyone's computer is different, everyone's browsing habits are different, and everyone's browser profile is different. Unfortunately, this means that some bugs may only affect a small percentage of users (or even just 1 user!) and are pretty hard for us to hunt down.
However, if you had any extensions installed that might have been the cause - extensions can affect the browser in weird ways.

Inappropriate?I read about Flock 2.5 at http://www.linux-mag.com/id/7339
which suggests that FLock no longer includes an integrated Flickr photo uploader like before. This was one of Flock's best features, as I have had little luck in using the Flickr site's own photo uploader. If the Flickr uploader is gone, how can I upload photos without having to install yet another piece of software?
I appreciate all the hard work that goes into creating such a great piece of free software, but I do not understand why you would remove one of the best features.
I’m sad
-
Hey Avoura,
We haven't done anything with the photo uploader - it works the same as ever. I'll go take a look at the article and try to clear up what's going on there. Thanks for the head's up, and enjoy 2.5!

Inappropriate?Evan, do you plan lite version of flock? In the beginning it looks just to complex. That's not only my opinion.
I’m troubled
-
Hey Dekoracje,
We haven't planned any lite version at this time, though the concept is certainly intriguing, and we're definitely paying attention to the ReadWriteWeb post I suspect you're referring to.
That said, our major focus this year is reducing complexity and making Flock a lot more friendly-feeling upon first run, so you can gradually and easily learn how to use it.

Inappropriate?I am wondering when Flock 2.5 will be available to download in the check for updates feature in Flock 2.0.3
-
Hey mikey,
We're still testing auto-updates on this end, but we're hoping within a week or two. If you'd like it sooner, you can simply download the installer from www.flock.com and run it - it'll update Flock to 2.5 and keep your settings (that said, it never hurts to back up your profile first).

Inappropriate?boy am i dumb i cant read for nothing i didnt read the part about the update being available in a couple weeks
I’m excited
-
Inappropriate?I don't dare install Flock 2.5 again after it deleted a buch of bookmarks. Sorry, but I'll wait till ya kill the bugs... HEY... I can't seem to Get Satisfaction to a question (and now a problem) about Flock 2.03 that I posted a week ago here:
http://getsatisfaction.com/flock/topi...
ANYBODY HOME?
I’m feeling really bad!
-
EM,
I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience with Flock 2.5 . For any update in the future, if you feel more comfortable, there's a possibility to export your bookmarks to back them up first.
As for your question/problem, I've replied in the corresponding thread.
Thanks,
Sophie -
Inappropriate?EM I have had the same problem with the default flock browser favorites with Flock 2.5 I hate Flock 2.5 I wouldnt recommend it to man or beast
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Hey mikey,
I'm sorry to hear that you're frustrated with Flock 2.5...however, we asked some questions regarding your issue and never got an answer. If you'd like to answer them, we can try to solve your issue: http://getsatisfaction.com/flock/topi...
The majority of the folks using 2.5 are having a successful, enjoyable experience. Your issue with 2.5 is likely something specific on your system, which hopefully we can resolve with you.
