Flock will not open after using the built in updater to upgrade from 2.0 to 2.0.2
I was running Flock 2.0 and I got a notification in the bottom right corner that there was a new version. I clicked on it and I got a window that said it was checking for updates. Then it said that Flock 2.0.2 was available. I clicked on the option to download and install it. Then it told me that I needed to restart the browser for the changes to happen. Then it never reopened after the restart. I opened task manager and clicked on the processes tab and never saw flock.exe listed. I clicked on the icon in the quick launch bar and it opened for like 2 seconds and it disappeared and I did not see it in the processes tab in task manager. I clicked on the icon in the quick launch bar again and it opened for like 2 seconds and it disappeared and I did not see it in the processes tab in task manager. The same thing keeps happening no matter how many times I try to open. I even went to C:\Program Files\Flock and double clicked on the flock.exe there and same thing happened. Is there a major glitch with the program that I am not aware of. I have my bookmarks/favorites in there and I don't want to lose them. I am afraid to install 2.0.3 cause I may never see my stuff again.

I worked with SthrnDixieCwgrl and we determined that the issue was the Cooliris extension, which somehow did not get blocked by Flock. Cooliris currently crashes Flock, and should be disabled on all copies of Flock.

Inappropriate? Some common causes of crashes that users have been experiencing lately. The most common crasher has been a corrupted search index. To fix this, go find your Flock profile folder (instructions here) and delete the "lucene" folder contained therein. Hopefully that solves the problem, but if not then it could be the result of a misbehaving add-on. So if you're still having problems, try running Flock in "safe mode" (instructions here) and see if that helps. If Flock runs fine in safe mode, then one of your add-ons is causing the problem and you can try enabling them one at a time to determine which one.
You can also try locating your profile via the link above, going into the extensions folder, and deleting the folders that it contains (don't delete the main "extensions" folder, just what's in it).
If Flock still doesn't work after that, I don't see a problem downloading and installing 2.0.3. The worst it can do is continue to not work.
Hopefully the smart folks at Flock have additional suggestions which can help you recover your data. -
Inappropriate? What does the the "lucene" folder folder do. In other words what purpose does it have.
-
Hi there,
The lucene folder contains a search index that is used to power the 'Favorites and Recently Visited' section of the search widget dropdown. Once lucene is deleted, the index is gone, so this area in the search dropdown will be empty until you have visited more pages and rebuilt the index.
Your actual history and favorites are not deleted by removing lucene -- only the index of them that powers the search widget section.

Inappropriate? If I delete that folder then my favorites/bookmarks and feeds will be gone and I am not losing those. Do you have another suggestion.
-
SthrnDixieCwgrl,
Like Clayton has stated in his post, your actual history and favorites (and feeds) will not be deleted by removing the lucene folder.
If you still feel uncomfortable about this, you could make a copy of your profile first as a back-up.

Inappropriate? Why can't someone make a browser that works

Inappropriate?I deleted that stupid folder and the browser still will not open. I think this is a sign that I need to go back to using Firefox and Internet Explorer.

C:\Documents and Settings\[your login profile name]\Application Data\Flock\Browser\
Windows Vista
C:\Users\Yourloginprofile\AppData\Roaming\Flock\Browser
Please compress(zip) this folder (after closing Flock) and upload it at http://www.yousendit.com to performance@flock.com

I don't have this Cooliris extension. The extensions I have are delicious & Adblock Plus 1.0.1. I think it might be the Adblock extension that's causing my problem because it was recently updated
