Flock wont launch
Just downloaded Flock for the first time; Flock 2.0.3 to be accurate. After downloading, it has a selection for "launching"...and it just stalls out.
Trying to launch Flock manually does nothing either, a brief hourglass, and that's it.

Inappropriate? As an update, I did see that flock.exe launches in the processess tab in the task manager, but then immediately closes. When I repeatedly double click on flock over and over, I get an error saying "Browser is already running, but is not responding."
Some help would be great.
I’m sad

Would you try to restart your computer and then restart Flock, please? -
Inappropriate?I have. I've rebooted and tried it, I've even rebooted on another attempt into safe mode to try and launch it.
Everytime, it launches the executable, and then immediately closes it (viewing it from the processes tab in task manager). -
Inappropriate?Hello Mike,
Would you download Flock from http://www.flock.com. Then uninstall Flock at Control Panel -> Programs -> Uninstall a program and reinstall Flock, please?
Thanks,
Patricia -
Yep, did it...and it does the same thing on this install. In fact, I've uninstalled, and re-installed the package several times. Each time trying something different when coming to the 'Options' selections (Custom/Express) (Default Browser/Non) (Launch/Non).
Still the same result. Flock launches the executable, then immediately closes. -
Inappropriate?Which operation system are you using? Have you tried to install Flock without going to the advance settings and just use the default installation settings? How was the result?
Would you share with me your current Flock program location, please?
Patricia -
Inappropriate?I'm using Windows XP. Yep, I've just done the "Express Installation". The result is the same, Flock launches then immediately closes. Being that the installation sets it as the default browser too, I end up having other issues with other programs that link-out into a browser heh..."where'd it go!" (cause Flock closes right away).
It asks me where I want to import my bookmarks etc. from, I select Firefox (also tried it once with IE).
C:\Program Files\Flock -
Inappropriate?Windows XP Media Center Edition Verison 2002, SP2
Dual 3GHz processors, 1.5GM ram.
I use Chrome, IE, and Firefox with no issues. -
Inappropriate?Thank you for much for your patience. You seem to have a nice machine.
Would you try the follow suggestions, please?
Please rename the Flock folder at C:\Documents and Settings\Application Data\ and then restart Flock.
If this doesn't work, please add another user at XP and give it the administrative rights and install Flock with "Express installation",please?
Please let me know how it goes.
Thanks,
Patricia -
Inappropriate?Hrmm, I guess I don't follow on your instructions.
"Please rename the Flock folder at c:\Documents and Settings\Application Data\"
Am I to edit the saved location upon install? Edit a file within Flock for that location? -
Sorry, please rename the Flock folder found as c:\Documents and Settings\Application Data\" to flockbackup -
Inappropriate? Now I'm even more confused! lol.
Flock folder is found for me at c:\documents and settings\hp_administrator\application data\flock
Am I to edit a file within the Flock folder found at that location? Am I to edit the actual flock folder and rename as flockbackup (doesn't seem likely)? -
Inappropriate?Sorry Mike,
Would you rename the flock folder found at c:\documents and settings\hp_administrator\application data\, please?
Patricia -
Inappropriate?Okay,
C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\Application Data\Flockbackup is the name of the directory now. I rebooted Flock, and still Flock.exe shows up on my task manager processes tab, then instantly closes. -
would you try the 2nd suggestion, please? -
Inappropriate?well, I guess I take that back to some extent.
When I rename the "flock" folder to "flockbackup", and then re-click on Flock on my desktop, I get the setup wizard for Flock again.
It re-installs, recreates the "Flock" directory, and then repeats the process of not booting. -
would you tell me the size of your free disk space of your C drive, please? -
Inappropriate? What is the free disk of your C drive?
-
Inappropriate?180gb free space on C

Inappropriate?Hello Mike,
I have forwarded this thread to our developers. I will let you know as soon as I get the response. Thank you for continued patience.
Thanks,
Patricia -
Inappropriate?Did I not do the file/directory change appropriately? Was a different outcome expected other than relaunching the installation file again?
-
Inappropriate?Hello Mike,
Could you delete that Flock folder in C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\Application Data\ and this time do not import from Firefox?
Bruno -
Inappropriate?Hi Bruno,
Okay, so I deleted the file in C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\Application Data\ and selected "Don't Import Anything" when Flock attempts to launch.
It then closes the installation window, acts like it's launching, and then sits there.
I went back into the C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\Application Data\ folder, saw the new Flock folder, renamed it "Flockbackup" and tried to launch it again via the Flock executable on my desktop (not the Flock installation file, rather, the Flock launcher (Flock.exe)). It goes back to trying to reinstall the program.
I'd never be able to tell if the program actually initialized w/o using Task Manager and seeing the "Flock.exe" process show, then close (less than 1 second after showing). -
Inappropriate? So Flock asks if you want to import anything. Nothing really happens, you delete the Flock folder, and then you wrote "It goes back to trying to reinstall the program."
Here, do you recall seeing a Flock window titled "Flock Import Wizard" asking you if you want to import settings? Or what is something else?
By now you're now clearly familiar with the Flock folder in C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\Application Data\. This holds your settings but does not actually hold the main program executable. This lives in C:\Program Files\Flock\ by default. Do you have files and folders in here? Can you try running the flock.exe file here directly, rather than the one on your desktop? -
Inappropriate?I do have files and folders in C:\Program Files\Flock where, yep, the main executable and other files are. I have tried to run from the executable in there as well, with similar results as the executable on the desktop.
For clarification, what I meant by it trying to reinstall the program, is that when I delete the Flock and/or Flockbackup folders within the C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\Application Data location and then try to launch the executable from within the C:\Program Files\Flock directory, or from the Flock executable on the desktop, it takes me to the "Flock Import Wizard", requesting setting selections, just as you mentioned. If I select "Don't import anything", it closes the wizard, and sits. If I select "Firefox" or "Microsoft", it takes me to another wizard page importing details from those browsers, and then closes...and sits.
I assume it's suppose to launch at this stage.
What doesn't make sense to me, is that even if I boot into safe mode, I still get the same pattern. Flock launches, the executable shows up in the processes tab in task manager, and then immediately closes. Almost so quickly, that it's hard to see if it actually does launch (but it does). If it was a browser conflict, addon/plugin conflict, or potentially something corrupt, I don't think it would have the same process in safe mode as in normal mode.
Thanks again for all the help, -
Inappropriate?the same problem here. although it has been working for two months until that.
