Gears for Flock?
I am able to install Gears in Flock, from http://gears.google.com/, but it does not work. Is this a Google issue or a Flock issue?

Hello erich13,
I've found this link : http://code.google.com/apis/gears/gea...
Could you please re-install and let us know if it still doesn't work? Also, which platform (XP, Mac... ) and which version of Flock are you using?
Thanks,
Sophie

Ok, I made a quick-and-dirty update to that extension so it's now working with Flock. It was done with the instructions on that page Sophie provided.
Google Gears for Flock can be downloaded here: www.noobit.us/gears-flock/gears-for-f...
I don't quarantine that it's working without any bugs in Flock nor that it will update itself automatically. I tested it with Flock 2.0.3 and 2.1a1 and it was detected successfully by Wordpress and Google Calendar.
Hopefully this helps someone.

Let me re-iterate: I am able to install Gears in Flock, from http://gears.google.com/, but it does not work.
And let me explain "does not work": I am able to successfully install Gears, but the gears functionality does not appear to be working within Flock. For example, when I go to a google document, it is not saved in the user local profile directory (http://code.google.com/apis/gears/gea...)
Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5 Flock/2.0.2 -
I followed the instructions and Gears appears to have installed, however, none of the Gears sites work. Flock locks up. Were there additional steps that you took? -
I updated Flock from 2.0.2 to 2.0.3 and then "Offline" appeared to the left of "Settings". Clicking on Offline, begins the process of activating Gears for the site. -
Inappropriate?I've tried this and it fails when I drag the xpi into Flock. Flock says that it it cannot find the install script (-204) when the package is zipped and renamed to install.xpi. If I don't zip it and just rename the modified install.rdf to .xpi, Flock says that it is not a valid install package (-207).

Inappropriate?I've asked around but unfortunately couldn't find any answer or solution.
How about trying on the latest Flock version that is available on our website?
-Sophie -
I using version 2.0.2, and despite "Check for updates..." not finding an update, I see that there is an new version 2.0.3. I'll try it out. Also, maybe you could ask Jen to check into it. -
Inappropriate?Flock version 2.0.3 still does not work with Gears. Again, I have Gears installed on my computer and a visit to http://gears.google.com/ confirms this (and that I am using the current version of Gears: 0.5.4.2)
-
Inappropriate?I'll take that back. I finally got the "Offline" link next to "Settings", clicked on Offline and accepted the installation of Gears for Google Docs.

Inappropriate?I've been trying to install gears for flock with no success.
What I've done so far :
- Installed gears as specified on googles websites, gears is alright in Firefox and IExplore (which I don't care as flock is my default browser), but nothing shows in flock.
- Packaged the Flock folder under google gears in My program files as an xpi extension. When I try to install the xpi, when checking the compatibility it reports "Google Gears 0.3.14.0 could not be installed because it is not compatible with Flock 2.0.3". I've had a look at the install.rdf, it looks like it is alright, I can see the guid for flock, and the version range looks alright as well..
If anyone can help, I'd loooove to have gears installed.
I'm running Flock on Vista Ultimate.
I’m a bit frustrated

Inappropriate?I have upgraded to Flock 2.0.3
Changed the rdf file in a text editor (Notes) so that the end looks like this:
<em:iconurl>chrome://gears/content/icon_32x32.png</em:iconurl>
<!-- On Win32, updates should _only_ be handled by the Google Updater.
To completely guard against Firefox changing the same files, we
remove the updateURL on Win32. -->

Zipped it and changed the suffix so that it is named install.XPI and put it in the Flock Folder.
Am on an eeepc with stripped down XP, but Gears works in all other browsers!
My system is in Spanish, could this be a problem?
The folder 'program files' is called 'archivo de programas'
Have been struggling for many months, so help will be appreciated. Whenever I go to gears.google.com it just asks to install gears.
I need it for blogging at Wordpress
TIA -
No, the language of the system is not a problem. Try to drag the XPI file to the Flock window (or the location bar in Flock). It will then ask if you want to install the extension. Just press yes, and voilà, you're done. :-) -
Inappropriate? The extension is now showig up in the 'add ons' window as installed, after I dragged it onto the flock window, have restarted Flock, but when i click on 'Turbo' (Which is for gears) in Wordpress I go to a wordpress page asking me if I want to install Gears, I click yes, then it takes me to gears.google.com which still asks me if i want to install gears?????
0.5.4.2
And I did reinstall gears from the installer I already had again.
Possibly I hve made a mistake in zipping the XPI - I really don't think so, maybe you have one to download?
Any ideas?
My interface comms with Wordpress is SSL. -

Great! This works beautifully! -
That's great - Gears finally works with Flock for me too -
Inappropriate? Thanks to your download, gears is now installing (updating files) and looks like it is going to work perfectly
-
Inappropriate?"Google Gears" could not be installed because it is not compatible with your Flock build type (Linux_x86-gcc3). Please contact the author of this item about the problem.
I think I'll have to stop using Flock [especially Gmail] until it's fixed.
I’m sad
-
Unfortunately the package I've uploaded is only compatible with Windows. You can create a Linux or Mac package with these instructions: http://code.google.com/apis/gears/gea... -
Inappropriate? Can't tell if it works for Windows, but in Linux it installs fine (with or without modification), shows up in add-ons and does absolutely nothing. No page can detect gears installed.
I’m frustrated
