My bookmarks disappeared
I restarted flock last night because it had started to run slow. After I closed it, I noticed that I needed to do some system updates - none related to flock. I installed them, restarted my computer, and. reopened flock. At first I thought it was odd that it did not reload my previous session. Then I noticed that all of my bookmarks were gone. I tried to browse google for a resolution, and noticed that the history was gone, too, and was not working for the current session (not even the back button was working).
Also, I'm not sure if this is related, but Flock won't quit. I have to force quit every time.
I'm running the current Mac OS and had the most recent version of Flock.

Hi Mary,
I had a look at your profile and did not see any of the errors you saw, which is strange.
I could see all your Flock accounts but there were no bookmarks (but your database file was not corrupted which is strange too).
The good news is that your backup (bookmarks-2009-07-16.json) has all your bookmarks and you can recover it. Your bookmark icons will come back once you start visiting the site you have bookmarked.

Inappropriate?Hey Mary,
This is very odd, and I'm not sure how it could happen. Are you positive you didn't receive a Flock update? What version do you see if you type "about:" (minus the quotation marks) into the address bar and hit enter?
Is it possible your entire profile is gone? Did you find that accounts, saved passwords, etc were missing after this, or they were still working?

Inappropriate?I am currently running 2.5, but I'm pretty sure it was the version before that when it crashed. I tried to manually reinstall it, which is why it's currently 2.5.
Accounts and passwords also appear to be gone. Thanks for your help!
I’m sad

Inappropriate?Hey Mary,
We're still trying to understand...do you have any extensions installed? If you disable them and restart Flock does it clear things up?

Inappropriate?I disabled all my extensions. The history now works, and I can quit flock without having to force quit, but my favorites and accounts are still missing. Is there any way to restore the user profile, if that's what the problem is?

Inappropriate?Hey Mary,
Well, it sounds like you did have any extension causing some issues...I'd recommend you re-enable one-by-one until you figure out which is causing the history/force quit issues, and stop using that extension (and maybe let the developer of it know).
We're still not sure what's going on with your bookmarks...it could have been caused by the extension, but that seems unlikely.
Here's something to try: even though your bookmarks appear to not show up, you could try exporting them and then re-importing them.
Here's how to export them: http://flock.com/faq/show/36#q_61211
Then follow that same path but choose import to re-import them.
I will cross my fingers, and if that doesn't work we'll try some other solutions.
I'm really sorry for the inconvenience...this is absolutely not normal behavior, and it's no fun. I'm going to do my best to get your favorites back, if I can.
Thanks for your patience,

Inappropriate?Evan,
No luck with exporting and re importing. :( I used to have everything in two places because I used magnolia, but when they went down I never starting using anything else. Now I wish I had. I hope you can work some magic; the more I use another browser, the more I miss flock. -
Inappropriate?Hey Mary,
Ok, let's try one more thing with that exported file - can you try importing it into whatever other browser you're using right now? See if they show up there...
In the meantime, I'll try to figure out if there's something we can dig out of your profile folder.

Evan,
I tried to import them into firefox (current build). Nada.
Thank you again!!! -
Inappropriate?Hey Mary,
Spoke to our devs. They said your error log looks very unhappy...your issue may go deeper than favorites. With that in mind, there's two things we'd like you to do:
1. You may be able to rescue whatever bookmarks you had on Magnolia...I know this won't be all your bookmarks, but it's a start. Try looking for this file: /Application Support/Flock/Profiles/<unique>.default/bookmarkbacups/*.json
If you do have this file, make a copy of it elsewhere. Then try importing it into Flock.
2. Even if #1 works, we still want to take a look at your profile to figure out what's up with it, assuming you're comfortable with that. We'll keep it private (only the devs working on your issue will have access to it), we won't do anything on your accounts, and we will delete your profile when we're done looking at it.
If you're ok with this, here are the steps to get it to us:
1. Shut down Flock
2. Make a copy of your profile folder
3. Zip the copy of your profile folder
4. Head to www.yousendit.com
5. Send the zipped profile folder to performance at flock dot com
Thanks for your patience...obviously something is not right here, and we'lld o our best to get to the bottom of it.

Inappropriate?Evan,
I just sent the file. I plugged in my gmail as the from address- mcatherineblack at gmail dot com, in case it wasn't clear who it was from. Thanks again! I'm about to try what you suggested re: magnolia. I remembered a few minutes ago that I *may* have also at one point set it to save to delicious, as well. I checked, and some of my bookmarks were there, but not all, so not everything is lost, but if you find a solution when looking at my profile, there's still a few that are missing (most of which I conveniently cannot remember the URLs of...).

Inappropriate?Bruno and Evan,
Perhaps it's because I just installed the upgrade? Everything seems to be working since then. Thank you guys SO MUCH for working with me on this. I really appreciate your patience and persistence- Flock has one of the best teams around. I now have all my bookmarks back, and Flock seems to be working again.
Thank you again.

Inappropriate?I will try Bruno's suggestion however, I cannot remember all my bookmarks. Is there anyway to retrieve them. DO you know what is causing this?
Thanks

Inappropriate?I just registered with Googles (actually I'm not sure I was trying to resolve my 'Bookmarks' issue) I guess it's a; Post Questions and Discussions forum. Anyhow, this is what I posted in there;
Ques. why does the 'Bookmarks' button disappear? I just started using, I would like to know if Google is checking into this matter as I don't want to put a lot of time and effort into, such some users have, only to loose the data.
(My resolution)
Ans. (perhaps I was lucky). I was about to reinstall as suggested, I'd already searched in several places for the 'bookmark' button. I decided to check again. I right clicked on the Google toolbar and then selected 'show button' and there is was, I selected it and my 'bookmarks' were still there....Lucky me. Hope this helps others. Oh, one more note to users and Google. The 'Bookmarks; button disappeared on me twice and I seem to have noticed each time it did disappear I had several windows open. Actually, it was only after closing some of them was I able to retrieve the Bookmarks button.
Good luck.. Linda
ps; hope this helps
I’m Relieved
