My problems with Flock v.2.0b2

Hi there,

I just want to shortly share my current problems with the new Flock 2.0b2 version.

1. It partly renamed my quick-access bookmarks in the Flock Toolbar.

2. It seems to have issues when I try to "Customize..." it via context menu.
2.1. After the first install the "forward" and "back" buttons were missing, I had to add them manually.
2.2. This hung the browser, which might be also related to the delicious.com extension, as it seemed to me, but I'm not sure.

3. It seemed to always hang itself / be "rebellious" after I use(d) the "Customize..." functionality. I noticed this behavior constantly also in some of the previous versions of Flock and/or Firefox, although I now can't state the version numbers anymore, as this partly happened a long time ago.

4. When I (try to) open the Add-On Tab in my AiOS sidebar, Flock (still) gets massively slowed down and studdering.

Currently anything else seems to work, except for I'd like to know how to make all Add-Ons compatible / deactivate the compatibility check.

Configuration:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 (32bit) - up to date.

    Hey Philipp,

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated.

    1. This is an odd one. What exactly did Flock change?

2 & 3. Do these issues occur if you disable your extensions? Extensions often cause issues in Flock and Firefox, and considering you have 22 my guess would be that one (or more) of them may be causing the issue. You can run Flock with all extensions disabled in Safe Mode by following the instructions at http://flock.com/faq/show/30#q_61805. If that solves the issue, the next step would be to disable each extension one by one to find the offending extension.

    4. There's not much we can do about an external extension slowing down Flock. I recommend you contact the developer of the extension and let them know. If they'd like to discuss the issue with it to try to figure out the issue, you're welcome to provide my email address.

As for making extensions work despite compatibility checks: obviously we don't recommend this because issues can crop up, but if you wish to do this there is an unofficial guide here: http://pascal.vanhecke.info/2007/10/2...

    Hi Evan,

    thanks for your answer.

    1. It did rename it to their "normal" / proposed (?) title. It before that didn't use ANY name for it (only the icon) or an abbreviation.
It seems all of my bookmarks got changed, although I'm not sure!

    2. & 3. Sorry, as I said this happened only once at the beginning after the installation of Flock v.2.0b2 and the first start-up.
As for the "Customize..." hangs, I wasn't precise, I can't reproduce them, although this happens fairly often - and, as said, also in Mozilla Firefox (3). So this must be a basic platform related issue.

    4. I'm not sure if it is the external extension, as it works much faster in Mozilla Firefox 3 (although not perfectly smooth too...), but in FF3, I do have more than three times as many extensions!!

Concerning the extension( developer)s, I have contacted them all, even short before Mozilla Firefox 3.0.0 (final) was released!! I asked all about Flock (v.2.x) support etc., and almost everyone said, they'd support it, they got no flaws & issues and so on!! The few that didn't, said they'd make a Flock compatible version so or upgrade it to v.2.x anyway.
I contacted a lot developers, if you do the math on the base of the facts noted above.
I don't know what I shall do even more?
I doubt everyone should or could get on the nerves of the poor developers!! Most of the time it is not their fault, I did not have many flaws with extensions ever, all issues (as the crashes and freezes) were always saved in a later Firefox or Flock version, so what shall I believe? Sorry, but that's my experience!

(I just get frustrated that browser and extension devs don't work together, but it is all blamed onto the extension (developer)s, although I have run e.g. with Mozilla Firefox countless sessions without any extensions and delivered all my configuration, mydata, my details, countless logs and crash reports, I did so many topic over the years on mozillaZine forums, I can't really remember one, where an issue was really solved, if it wasn't about a single extension issue, which was indeed always solved quickly.)

    5. I do have to add an issue, which I do also have in Mozilla Firefox 3.0.x, so it seems to be only with the new platform: Often the context menu doesn't work!! Or more precisely, it does seem to open in some way, but one doesn't see it, and then "boom", it opens any context menu item!! Most of the time "AdBlock Plus" (trying to block an image or any other element), "FlashGot (All)" or the diigo or delicios.com bookmark dialogue!! This is extremly annoying and although this happens not 100% of the time, but maybe 60-70% of the time, this is a real problem!

I'll check out the Safe Mode, sorry, I did totally forget that.
    I will report back soon.

Thanks for your help so far!

    Kind regards.

PS: Why do you think this already solves the problem?
Isn't this a shot from the hip? :p
