Updating: What auto updating? Edit: Lock out?
I have a problem. Well to me it's a problem. 9 days ago I asked about a flickering mouse curser. Before I asked I checked I was up to date, clicking 'Help', and 'Check for Updates'. The result was: 'No Updates Found. There are no new updates available. Flock may check periodically for new updates.'
You'll have to imagine my surprise when employee Patricia informed me that I wasn't up to date as I was using 2.0.0 and Flock had moved on to 2.0.3.
My 'ps', below, regarding this was overlooked.
"What have I missed here. Before my original request for info I had clicked 'help', 'check for updates' and it had come back that I was up to date. But obviously I wasn't as I was still on Flock 2.0.0. Was this a glitch or correct? If correct how do I know/check I have the latest version? If I had been aware I was not on the latest version I would have updated before feeling it necessary to contact you."
I've just asked a second question about an infected file. When I came onto the help page I noticed, 'Most recent Company Update: Flock 2.5 is here'. But what do you know a repeat of 'Help', and 'Check for Updates' says again 'No Updates Found'.
Is this a glitch or correct? If correct how do I know/check I have the latest version? I'm using 2.0.3 and will update to 2.0.5 which only because of having a query am I aware is available. Mozilla Firefox updates automatically or at least starts and asks me about it. Flock doesn't let me know anything at all. How do I set it to notify me of updates?
Have just read a similar question. The answer, below, appears to say you don't auto update everyone straight away on release of newer version but that an auto update will eventually be issued. This is confusing as I was on 2.0.0 and Flock had move on to 2.0.3 and now I'm on 2.0.3 and it's moved on to 2.5 but I wasn't auto updated to 2.0.2 or 2.0.4?
I have my setting set to auto update. Is there a glitch here or is everything working fine? Please explain?
Finally, my last query re the anti virus: When I attempted to edit my submission I was locked out. Please see snipping cap. This was within the 15 minutes why was I locked out?
ps I am grateful for your prompt and helpful replies to my previous questions.

Hey Patrick,
Auto-updates are complex, and we like to do additional testing before we send them out to everyone. We'll be working on this immediately now that 2.5 is out the door, and you'll hopefully have your auto-update soon. Don't know a timeframe, but I will let you know when I do.
However, if you'd like to manually upgrade it's as simple as downloading 2.5 from www.flock.com and running the installer - Flock will migrate all your settings.
Backing up your profile is never a bad thing, so if you'd like to do that, instructions are at: http://flock.com/faq/show/64#q_61799

Inappropriate?Hey edgbaston,
Sorry about the confusion. Let me clarify:
Why don't auto-updates go out when new versions come out? Auto-updating is a complicated process, and the code to do this is not simple. We have to test this, separate from the normal testing of a new version, before we can send it out to you all. This is for your protection. So what we normally do is release the new version on the website and then immediately start testing the auto-updates. We often have them out within a few weeks.
Where was my update from 2.0 to 2.0.x? Because 2.0 auto-updates were going to involve auto-updating folks from 1.0, it was even more complicated than normal. We've been working on this and testing it for several months, but we've never turned it on fully because we've been crushing bugs (1.0 is very different code from 2.0). So it's not a surprise that you never got updated from 2.0.
Where is my 2.5 auto-update? We're currently in the process of testing this update, and expect to have it out within the next few weeks. You won't have to look for it: Flock will automatically tell you that there is a new version.
How do I know that I have the latest version? If you're concerned that you don't have the latest version or want to see if a new version fixes a bug in Flock, the best way to check is to go to http://www.flock.com and hit the download button. The file name will tell you which is the latest version. If you'd like to manually upgrade you can simply run that installer (though backing up your profile first never hurts). It'll transfer all your settings and content.
Let me know if there is anything you're still wondering about...sorry about the confusion, it's certainly not straightforward!
