Any way to have Fluid Gmail show badges when Fluid is not running?
Is it possible to have Fluid Gmail open during startup, but have it hidden so a new window doesn't open, that way badge notifications of how many new email are in your inbox is displayed in the dock?
In other words, I'd like to have Fluid Gmail serve as a replacement for Google's Gmail Notifier, that way I can have my notifications in the dock like Apple's Mail application. The Gmail Notifier open during startup and displays the number of unread emails and notifies you when new messages arrive.
Thanks for your help!

Inappropriate? On a related note, adding Growl support for the icons with badges would be great - e.g. when there's a new email, give the option of Growling it as well as having it update the badge

Inappropriate?Yes, you can run Fluid hidden at start up with Growl and dock notifications of new messages. I can't believe this question has been posted so long without an answer. Here's how to do it:
First, set your Fluid Gmail app to launch at start up. The easiest way to do this is to run the app, cmd-click (or right click) the icon in your dock, and select the option to "Open at Login".
Next, you'll want make the app hidden at start up. To do this, go to System Preferences (click the Apple menu, then "System Preferences..."). In the System Preferences window, click "Accounts", then click on the "Login Items" tab. You'll see a list of applications that start automatically at login. Find your app in this list, then click the "Hide" check box to the left of the app's name. You may also need to click the lock icon in the lower left corner to make this change stick. Now you can close this window.
Finally. you'll want to set the app so that it continues to provide notifications even when the window is closed. To do this, go back to the app, click on its name in the menu bar (at the top of your screen), then click "Preferences...". Now click "Behavior" and select the check box for "Closing the last browser window: only hides the window (this preserves the window's web content)". Now close the preferences window and you're all done.
The next time you start your computer, your Fluid Gmail app will open without showing the window, and you'll receive Growl and dock notifications as new messages arrive. You can open and close the window as many times as you like and the notifications will keep on coming.
Hope this helps. Let me know how it works for you.
