Fluid / Gmail problems
We've installed Fluid on several machines. On a few (both G5 and Intel) macs, we're having 2 problems with Fluid Gmail apps we create (no idea if our 2 problems are related).
First, the Favicons fail to load when we create the Fuild apps for gmail. Then, the gmail Fluid apps seem to hang forever with a "Loading" message when we send or get mail. Strangely, on other machines, we're having no issues with gmail/Fluid at all.
Any ideas?

Inappropriate?Hi Brian, one thing I've noticed is that you cannot have Gmail running in more than one browser at once or else it wont work (in other words, dont have gmail running in safari in the background. this is a limitation of Gmail)
As for 'favicons fail to load', i really dont know what you mean by that.
Also, make sure you are using the latest version of Fluid. Update both Fluid.app *and* your Fluid SSB by going to the main menu:
Application Menu -> Check for Updates...

Inappropriate?Hi Todd,
I typically only run one instance of gmail - and Adium as well for chat. However this happens almost constantly - nearly everytime I put my mac on sleep, and then open it up again, check my mail, wait a bit, and it doesn't want to do anything.
I’m a bit annoyed.

Inappropriate?I have the hanging on loading problem regularly too (and I'm not loading gmail in more than one browser).
About once a day, gmail will hang on "loading..." and nothing will happen no matter how long I wait. If I instead reload my message box is reverted to how it was a while ago. This makes me assume that it might be an issue with Fluid and Gears -- maybe it just stops communicating with Google?

Inappropriate?I use Gmail as well as email through Google Apps (a version of gmail) for my work email. I used both in Fluid SSBs for a while and the worked perfectly.
I installed Google Gears for Safari recently and the offline browsing worked in the Google Apps SSB, but the regular Gmail SSB would give me a "you are not connected to the internet messsage". I recreated the SSB for Gmail and then offline browsing worked.
Now even more recently when I start the Gmail SSB I see the web address redirecting a few times (so I assume there is some sort of connection going on) but when it gets to the following address it stops and gives me a blank white page.
http://mail.google.com/mail/login_com...
Reloading doesn't help. I've recreated the SSB several times with no luck. The funny thing is that once again the Google Apps SSB works just fine. Gmail also works fine in Firefox and Safari.
I don't get it. There must be something in the way Gmail works that is different from the Google Apps version and it doesn't mesh well with Fluid. Maybe related to Google Gears. I don't know. I'll let you all know if I figure anything out.
I realize this is probably an issue with Gmail, not Fluid, but do you have any more thoughts, Todd?

Inappropriate?Go into the gears settings and remove all entries for gmail.com and mail.google.com. That fixed the blank window problem for me.
I’m satisfied

Inappropriate?Gmail is definitely still hanging on sending or receiving some messages some of the time for me in a way it never did in Firefox or Safari, and I didn't have Gmail open anywhere but in Fluid...and I don't have Gears installed in any way.

Inappropriate?Same symptoms. I keep pressing reload... eventually the white page goes away and the mail loads.

Inappropriate?Deleting the gears info solved the prob for me. But how do I get gears/offline back?
-
Inappropriate?I have only discovered a problem with accessing Gmail through Fluid since I updated to Snow Leopard. Safari 4 on SL isn't supported by Google Gears yet so I don't have it installed, therefore it's safe to say that this isn't the cause of the problem in my case.
If I launch Gmail from the application icon in dock/finder I have no trouble, I can even launch from Terminal without a hiccup!
The problem arises when trying to click on a mailto: link on a webpage. I have Gmail set as my default app for these links and the Fluid wrapped gmail app just sits on the loading screen with the top bar nearly but not quite full.
I have discovered that the problem is something to do with the URLs being passed to Gmail to display a different screen state from the normal one (in the case of mailto: to open a new compose message window and populate the to field with the address from the mailto link) if I remove the custom string appended to the URL then Gmail opens as usual.
