2003 Escape paint peeling.
We have (and many other folks I've found online) a 2003 Ford Escape with peeling paint. According to paint/body shops this is an issue with faulty primer paint and/or application. These vehicles are 'out of warranty' due to mileage, but in this modern era does anyone really expect factory paint problems for a 5 year old car?
The paint typically begins to peel on the tailgate and roof. We have several very rapidly growing patches. Ford corporate custumer service is no help ("out of warranty"), and it appears the local dealers' hands are tied. In spite of the many folks reporting this problem, Ford claims they are not aware of this problem/any other complaints.
Several online folks are currently searching for the appropriate attorneys. Is it really going to take a class action lawsuit for Ford to fix this? For what I gather, this is an issue for several of their SUVs during that period of time.

Inappropriate?I have a 2003 Ford Escape, paint is peeling off under window on tailgate. Talked to Ford today, she said warranty was out nothing they could do, but if enough consumer filed complaints Ford may take a look at the problem and possibly do a recall. Need everyone with this problem to call Ford and complain.

Inappropriate?I am facing the same problem with my 2005 Explorer. Ford put out a Technical Service Bulletin in Dec. 2004 that states the models affected and what the problem is - Aluminum corrosion due to too much iron in the aluminum - defective. I am contacting the BBB, Department of Transportation in my state, lemon-law attorney, and local news if they do not fix the issue. This has happened to thousands of people. cbs5.com has a story under consumer section regarding Ford and peeling paint. The dealership and ford that were involved in this story said in the beginning that they never heard of such a thing unti ConsumerWatch got involved. Then they fixed the problem. Hmmm. Techinical Service Bulletins are supposed to be kept "hush Hush".
Another article I read said that depending on what type of "loyal" customer you are to Ford depends upon whether or not they will fix it. Seriously?? I don't know about you, but in the state the Auto industry is in right now, I think it would be in their best interest to satisfy the customers it DOES have!

Inappropriate?Paint is peeling off back hatch under glass and off roof. Ford Customer Care says nothing they can do about it. The Ford Collision Repair guy at the dealer said "Trade it while you still have paint left on it".
Very disgusted and disappointed. It's only 6 years old!!!!
I’m mad as hell...

Inappropriate?OMG! I am reading everyone's comment and am sick! My Escape is 2003. Silver and the paint is peeling off in the same spots as everyone else. Under the Hatch window and there is a big spot on top of the car past the sunroof. Has anyone been able to get any answers? My car always goes in the garage and from Nov. 2002 - Feb 2005 it was even garaged parked at work! 74k miles.
I’m sick over this!

Inappropriate?I emailed myford@customersupportctr.com July 29th. I have never heard back! I mailed them at Marketing Program Headquarters
7777 N. Wickham Rd #12-424
Melbourne, FL 32940
I have not had a reply from them either.
I called my dealership and the tech laughed and told me it sounds like a great time to trade it in! What great Ford Employees! I will tell you, I was looking at the Ford Flex but after all this wonderful customer service, I will NOT be purchasing a Ford again!!!
I’m frustrated!
