Correcting Venue Names
I'd like to see a way to correct venue names, as well as match up incorrect spellings with the correct location, when using the web app.

Yes. If I was a better person, I'd have this built for launch. We do have admin tools, they're just not ready for everyone to play with yet. Soon tho.

I check in via SMS because AT&T is slow, but sometimes my spelling is a bit off. Be great to be able to have an option in [add venue] which is [actually I meant this place over here]

There are something like 5 Mitsuwas in SoCal alone. If I search Mitsuwa I get the Santa Monica (West LA) Store, if I search Mitsuwa Marketplace (the full name) I get the Costa Mesa store. Editing the names so they a) match and b) include neighborhood would be nice. They should really all appear when I make either search so that I can choose between the stores. Also being able to add the website link would be good too.
In general locations need to be a bit more editable, or at least there should be a 'update info' kinda link that will let you Submit changes an admin could then filter. (I'm sure several users would be willing to volunteer for such a job, I know I would)
I’m frustrated

When you search Chipotle only the 34th street location comes up because it's an exact match even though there are many other Chipotle locations listed. In general I think that anything that matches should show up.

Inappropriate?Editing of venues would be good, I've also got a venue that I've added information for but it's not linking to the venue in my feed or showing any checkins there.
I’m excited to see progress

Inappropriate? You're awesome, Dennis. This came about because of my checking in at Deli Dhaba yesterday, when the spelling is actually "Delhi Dhaba" -- I entered both spellings because I'm a dummy but I only checked in at the wrong spelling.
I'd love something like an option to merge venues (though that's probably more admin-side) or simply a "did you mean ...? thingie"
Love the service. Very interested in watching it grow, and participating! :)
I’m excited

Inappropriate? It would be cool if it could handle alternate spellings, like theater/theatre.

I completely agree. In Stockholm there is one NK and one Nordiska kompaniet. They are the same place (although one's got the address wrong). It's annying not being able to merge or edit them. -
Inappropriate? Also, is there a way to correct check-ins via SMS? My none of my friend's SMS checkins actually find the location. It would be nice if he could match them up when he got home.

Inappropriate?Agree. Would like to make/suggest/vote corrections. For instance, Suppenküche. It looks like the umlaut isn't being handled properly. Alternatively, umlauts can also be rendered as the vowel +e, so Suppenkueche for instance.

I’m wondering.

Voting for changes is a grand idea. -
Inappropriate?Fixed the venue name to be Suppenküche.

Inappropriate?Really need to be able to correct venues. Starbucks - Kirkwood. Kirkwood, MO is at the wrong address and the map is wrong. Editing the venue from the iPhone and online would be great.
-
Inappropriate?Maybe someone already suggested this but what about foursquare listing similar names in the same city when trying to add a new venue and before confirming that new venue so that that user can see if the venue is registered already??
