Foursquare doesn't give me points I deserve
There are several places where I get a message that my phone has determined that I am too far away from the location where I am checking in. But I am sitting right there, in the building that I state I am checking in to!

Margie, this is a known "problem" that Foursquare is reviewing and working on. See this thread, where your problem will probably be merged:

've been having this same problem for the last two days. I think it's because people enter an administrative address which is not close to the actual location. For example I'm at George Bush airport in Houston, sitting in the Continental President's Club in Terminal C and it's already a valid 4Square venue, but I don't get points because 4Square says I'm too far away from the address which is probably just a mailing address

See Campdave's suggestion and my response to a thread covering this issue. Also note you can use the website to go back and correct the address if you are the Mayor or Superuser Level 1.

the address is correct. It's an administrative address that shows when you look up the airport's mailing address. but it could be miles away from the actual location. the only way to fix it is to edit the venue and DELETE the address which is stupid. most geo-location apps recognize airport terminals will have a different lat/long then the administrative address. if you're with 4Square you SHOULD know this
-
Foursquare is only as good as the information given by it's users, it's not a mind reader. Post a link to the venue in the corrections threads and a superuser will edit it.

ummm, ok, I know quite a bit about geo-coding user location and I'll repeat what I said before in a different way so it's easier for you to understand. a decent geo-coder would recognize airports have administrative addresses which don't match the latitude and longitude pair that corresponds to a user's current location. an airport has one mailing address, but the terminals can be miles apart. comprende?

and I already am a SuperUser and edited the venue to DELETE the address. sheesh are you even reading the thread?

The address isn't the problem. It's the geo-location, which you claim to know a lot about. Go in and move the pin, which indicates where the venue is, to the proper location.

This is also happening to me desite the icon marker showing that I am actually standing on the registered location and my GPS and google maps etc all show that I am standing on the spot where the icon/location has been registered and yet still I am deemed too far away to claim the Check-in or points!!
I actually had more than 15 of these occurances yesterday!! -

I am currently the mayor of the Transformers Movie Set in downtown Chicago, and was standing right by the set, watching what was going on, and did not receive any points. Why???
