How do you become a Superuser Level 2?
I'm just wondering what are soem of the criteria for moving someone from Level 1 to Level 2. I've been adding listings and editing them according to the style guide, and updating my friends' listings to make them adhere to the style guide too. Is there a critical volume that you need to hit?

Superusers are selected individually, it's not something that happens automatically, you can actually make a request on GetSatisfaction if you've been super on top of it :-)
The system will, at least according to a TechCrunch article, eventually have three levels of SuperUser based on activity and editing level. You could actually draw some parallels with the Wikipedian system...

Is there a specific thread on getsatisfaction to make this request?
-
-
-
-
Start a thread asking if there is a superuser in your area. If there is, they might simply suggest you message that person to handle your requests. If you've been highly active on the system and there is not a superuser level 2 in your area, staffers can add you.
-
-
So Level 2 requires you to be locally active, rather than a trusted moderator accross whole areas. I suppose that's a smart way to manage the system, especially now that the city-bucket system has been opened up.

Unfortunately in Seoul, there's a couple of douchebags that are checking in for the sake of checking in trying to collect a whole buncha mayrorships not understanding it's about collecting badges and buncha other douchebags that create duplicate venues so they can be a mayor, or they'll input the same location in English if there's a Korean version of that venue already, really got my work cut out for me :(
-
I know this was 4 months ago, but just thought I'd let you know that I'll be returning to Seoul this fall, and I'll help out as much as I can.

I too am tired of seeing the duplicate names of places. sometimes just adding an "s". I would like to make my community more esthetic and fair. I have been able to close some duplicate venues but wish to have merge ability.
-
You shouldn't close duplicate venues.

I recently joined foursquare and started adding Venues just for the sake of it. My thinking was that more venues the better. A larger community. It had nothing to do with points or Mayorships. To my dismay i found out i was adding duplicate venues because the of the search feature on my iphone foursquare app was not finding them. Now i would like the ability to merge Dup entries. How can i become a Super user 2 or 3. I have lots of time on my hands and could be useful to the community. Im not interested in points or Mayorship really. Just love the social networking side of it.
-
-
-
That does not really answer the question. I want to be able to merge Dupes. Please explain.
-
-
I don't know if there is a superuser level 2 in my area.
I've done several merge requests, and there never has been an actual merge. I add and edit foursquare venues all the time, so I 'm familiar with that...
Is there any way that I can become superuser level 2 or maybe even 3? I also use waze in my area, might be a plus, I don't know. -
-
Send an e-mail to one of the staff members with your profile name- they'll check and see what you've been up to an add superuser capabilities if appropriate.
-
How would one go about to achieve that? They don't exactly have links to e-mail addresses, hence this forum like support service.
I'm superuser level 1, so I can edit venues, which is a huge plus, however, I've seen duplicate venues on more than one occasion. Did requests to get them merged, but they never came through.
Point is, I've lived in my area for 26 years, and would like to help make foursquare better...
It might just happen, but informing never hurts. I don't see any way to e-mail someone from these boards, hence my reply here. -
-

Ah, sorry for the misunderstanding: ct@foursquare.com will forward the request appropriately...
Usually you can just make a post in GF with a heading like "Super User Level 2 Request for [Area]" and as I mentioned before, just list your user name.
You might also want to include your well written rationale behind the request.- view 1 more comment

GF refers to Get Satisfaction.

OK. But why isn't it GS?
I am a new SU1. And I just resolved all the 969 Address Changes in my area. Now I wanna fix the categories. So I am looking for instructions on upgrading to SU2. -

I have found that Mentioning the FourSquare gets a pretty immediate response.

What are the benefits of being a Super User Level 2?
What can a Level 2 user do that I can't do as Level 1?- view 2 more comments

OK, cool, thanks. Although right now I can insert the venue ID of a duplicate (to merge) but it has to be verified. I can also add multiple categories and set the primary category for some venues (usually that I'm the mayor of).
I'm going to see if I can request an upgrade to Level 2 :) -
-
I wouldn't bother with that request. They have specifically asked for no more superuser requests. They've overloaded with them as it is - and trying to weed out some of those that are abusing their powers.
-
-
-
-
How about a list of Level 2 superusers so that we can simply contact the one in our area and have them merge the deets?
-
There's no need for a list of SUs and I doubt very much that they would want their contact details given out so they can be spammed with emails for merge/edit requests.
If you'd like venues merged or edited, please post them in the appropriate thread:
Europe main thread for merges/edits
North America main thread for merges/edits
South America main thread for merges/edits
Africa main thread for merges/edits
Asia main thread for merges/edits
Australia etc main thread for merges/edits
Mexico main thread for merges/edits
Japanese venue merges/edits thread 日本語場所編集・合流/edits
Please include the URLs of the venues to be merged or edited too along with address details, category etc.
If you'd like the pin moved go to Google Maps and put your cursor on the spot you want the pin moved to. Right click and a sub menu will appear and select the bottom one (What's here?) this will give you co-ordinates, paste those on the thread and the pin can get moved. -

Yes, I'm curious about the same thing regarding Tel Aviv, Israel as well. I've been a SU1 for months, working rather hard on merging the horrible typos, and duplicates in Hebrew, but the approval process is rather slow
I know a bunch of users just became SU1 the other day, but its still a mystery to me whether there's a SU2 in our area, and I would love to have those privs.-
If you are SU1 queue the venues for merge and then post here: http://getsatisfaction.com/foursquare... with the area of the venues and me or the other SU2/3's will clear them
-
-
-
-
-
Sassy - I know all that. Yet I refuse to do so on grounds of it being incredibly stupid that a SU1 has to merge something (which is something i do within seconds) and then start compiling lists, and posting them on an external website which isn't even an official support site for foursquare (and with all due respect to your good work here, nor are you an official support rep).
The current method is the most inefficient way possible for optimizing stuff.
Not to mention the fact that since (AFAIK) there are no Hebrew-speaking SU2s, there is no way for anyone of the existing SU2s who end up approving our changes to even know they're doing the right thing.
If a SU2 is supposed to confirm a change and verify that it is correct, then the point may be lost on us foreigners, seeing as some folks here enter names/addresses in Hebrew, others do so in English, and others are idiots who can't spell. this is what we're up against.- view 6 more comments

Also - if I've already merged two venues, why on earth would I have to queue up both venues all over again for you guys?
you either don't understand how the merging process works, or don't understand why it was designed this way (or both)
in sassy's reply to your original post, she posted the link to the queue processing thread. nowhere in that thread do i see anyone reposting venue links and id's. they are only listing the cities. and contrary to what you may believe, this actually is not a required step. but it makes things more efficient, as it ensures someone will check the queue of a particular area in a timely manner.
as to the "why", as stated before, the reason it takes 2 SUs to do these steps is a matter of quality control.
so, receiving SU2 or SU3 status isn't going to change what you are apparently bitching about. because you can sit and mark all the merges you want, but you will still not be able to approve your own merges. no one can.
At least I used to do that until the new UI changes
Yet I refuse to do so
but I am unwilling to waste my time
love the enthusiasm, btw -

Simple answer is then, Tel Aviv stays a mess *shrug*
We're all here willing to help, you're unwilling to let us
I'm not gonna flog a dead horse anymore.
Enjoy the mess. -

Ladies, you're both pretty. OMFG. "foursquare monitors but is not active in this community." Right at the top of every GetSat page tied to FourSquare. FS indeed has an OFFICIAL support ticket system ONLY available on their non-SSL website (completely insecure from the ground up). And from this bickering, I can now understand why issues of hijacked accounts will NEVER be solved.
-
This is a 4 month old thread which is long out of of date as new SU tools have since been released and SU3's now have access to a global queue so other SU's don't need to post areas that need merging now as the SU3's constantly work the global queue. And I'm not sure how it's connected with your account hijack issue?

I have a question? If you need to edit venues to become a super user L2 or L3 or however it works, and now they've taken away the ability to edit a venue if you're mayor, how do you become a super user? And who exactly are the Super Users L2/3 in South Africa? Or are there only super users L2/3 in the USA? What if I wanted to become one? What would that take?
-
Anthony - there are no hard and fast rules on becoming a superuser...YET! We've heard that there will soon be some new superuser tools and a rollout of an improved superuser program. As of today, there is no way to become a super user, until they rollout their new program. Stay tuned.
As for SU's in South Africa? I'm not sure, sorry.
There are certainly SU's in other areas of the world besides the USA. There are several in Europe that are quite active in this community, and I know of a few in Asia as well. -

I would love to become a super user. I have been using FourSquare for a while and am the largest promoter of FourSquare in my circle of friends and co-workers.

I'm actively involved in promoting foursquare in my area and as a SU1, I can't make all the appropriate changes I need/want to make regarding merges and category changes. I try and help edit details and submit merges as much as I can in the North American thread but there are a lot that I can't handle. Is there anyway to be promoted to a higher level?
Also related, when someone provides the coordinates for a location, is there an easy way to enter them in a venue you are editing? I'm unsure if I don't have the capability to do so as an SU1 - or if I simply can't figure it out.
Please let me know :)- view 2 more comments

Okay, that explains some things, I though a higher SU would be able to apply changes immediately. I live in the Netherlands, northern part is where I come most, and I flag the venues as duplicates all the time. More duplicates are created all the time, I don't understand why. At one point, there might be five entries for one single venue, which is just wrong.
I will just continue to do what I do, and see if things get processed. -
-
If you're flagging from the iphone app, dont. Thats a bad way of submitting merges. Use the website, and submit them individually from each venue page. Much more efficient.
-
-
-
-
@Brett, seriously? I would then have to note every duplicate and other venues to edit them on the site when I get to a computer. The buttons in the iPhone app make it easy to do that sort of thing...
Edit: I can see why submitting merges through the site can be more efficient. The added venue ID's makes it easier, I guess else you'd have to scan the venue listing to see duplicates...- view 1 more comment

Try what I do. Add venues you see while on your iPhone that need to be merged to your To Do list. Once you've submitted them on here remove them from your list.
-
-
@Mary Mo, that's one excellent Idea. I'll do that from now on. In the past I would use the buttons on the iphone and occasionally remember a venue that I would then enter through the site.
@Brett, thanks, I now understand why my requests weren't handled. I went ahead and added a few through the website, I'll see if that gets processed now. Great stuff, thanks for clearing things up. -

Vancouver, BC is also desperate for Super Users as edits need to be done on wrong address info, duplicates and more. I'm contacting 4Sq today by email and see what kind of reply I get.
Otherwise, if anyone from 4Sq is monitoring this, please edit my status as superuser. Here are my deets. Thanks :)
User: freddiedl
4Sq: foursquare.com/freddiedl-
I totally agree. I do my best to nudge cursors and send updates for duplicates in the Vancouver area but it's a daunting job. Still trying to figure out how to be elevated to a SU2 or 3.

Sometimes I get confused on these types of threads. If a person is requesting 4Sq to make them a SuperUser or to promote them from their current leval to a higher leval, How will that be achieved by less than positive (or on that hand even polite) behavior on this site.
FYI>>>>(from "Message from foursquare" on Overview page Get Satisfaction)
Please make nice, and give these guidelines a read: http://getsatisfaction.com/ccpact -

Since the update, I can't alter categories on venues anymore. Also, when I click edit on the site, I can't change the address anymore, just add tags. It states I can alter the category, but that only seems to work on venues that aren't currently in one.
I'm still SU1, but it seems the website has changed something.- view 6 more comments

SU1 can simply post their category requests in this thread, http://gsfn.us/t/x113

Rudyn, thanks again. I've posted several venues there, will add more as I come across them. The thread title stated SU2 only, but I guess my post is valid. ;)

Baltimore, MD is also filled with a good bit of nonsense that could stand to be cleaned up. I've been reporting a lot of duplicates and illegals lately due to either a rise in users who like to "play" the game or my change of scenery.
Does anyone know if any SU2+ users are in Baltimore?-
@SpamSpam is a SU3 from there. :)

I am also SU3 from Baltimore as well. I can assist in anything you might need.

I am a SU1, and i am happy to be a SU. I fixed venues more than 100 but i am still SU1. What do i have to become SU2? more fixing, adding address infos? i really wonder that. Thanks
If you search "adana" on 4sq (tags) , you can see that i fixed venues. Its really more than 100.. i counted :D- view 6 more comments

Flagging venues for deletion enter a global queue which only foursquare can delete. Unless its inappropriately named it can takes, weeks or months for it to be deleted. If the venues needing deleted are innapropriate you can request for them to be deleted by tweeting @4SqSupport but please be mindful that with most of the foursquare team at SXSW in Austin, TX this weekend. Your request may be delayed.
please only report venues that need deleted as a matter of urgency.
Thanks -

I couldnt edit tags and now i cant edit yet.. I really dont like that. I could edit venue (without categories) faster and faster but sometimes user wants to me edit the category and i cant. I freak out.
For example:
I edit venue which user want me to edit and than user want me to change category and i say "upper SU will edit category"... This is just "waste of time" one SU should do that, not two
I just want to mean like that, Thank you for your time :) -

Hey, i've recently become a STE on Gowalla, but i'm a keen user of both applications, my question is how do you become a super user on foursquare? :/ thx
-
-
I am pretty sure there are no superusers in my immediate area. I have probably added almost 250 venues (correctly) putting in the complete address and phone number and making sure the location is spot on. My boyfriend has probably added 300 venues. I see so many duplicates in my area and in the Jacksonville, Gainesville, St. Augustine area it would take a lot of work to clean up those areas, but I know I am up for the challenge as is my boyfriend. Many people in my area don't know use the website to correct their venues, in fact many probably don't even get on the website. Any chance of becoming a superuser for zip code 32177?

Simply got an email from a foursquare staff member a long time ago that said, "congratulations, we've upgraded you to Superuser status!"
It was after many months of contributing here on GetSatisfaction. -

An SU2 can add/change categories.

su1 can edit/add/delete categories now
-

If it has hasn't been answered, the most up to date answer is: you can request to be upgraded up to SU2 with an application and by answering a few questions quiz style. SU3 status is obtained a bit differently.

Sure is, SU3's are pretty much Hand Picked by staff
