iPhone app crashes when adding new venues

Is this issue still stuck in the update queue? I haven't heard update queues for Apps being anything longer than two weeks last time I checked. I have given up adding venues via the iPhone app since it crashes 9/10 times, and instead have been adding them via the web interface on my iPhone.

you may have been shitlisted by Apple. One company I worked for got our apps and updates in, in under a 72 hours. Another it took 3 weeks. Apple's lovely blackbox

I installed 1.3.1 this weekend and still crash when trying to add a new venue. I then tried uninstalling the app and installing it again but still crash. I see a question and 2 bottons appear for a split second before the app crashes.

I am running the app on a 3GS.

i am always trying to add locations and it kept crashing and even tried a restore after a reinstall, thinking it was my iphone since no app has ever crashed like this for me.

It still crashes for me and i'm going crazy over it, cause i can't report where i work. Any word on a fix, besides the last fix that came in.

I have this same problem. Although the points and the check-in are added to my account, the application still crashes.

Ditto. Crashes when I hit check-in, although the check-in does get registered.

When I first installed the App I was able to add venue's with no issue, however now it does seem to crash 9/10 times though if I do not enter a "shout" it will sometimes complete but maybe that is just a coincidence? Other times it will let me enter the venue info then "Check-in" -> crash. This morning it happened however it did seem to get the info submitted and showed my location at the new venue upon restart. Being able to add new venue's is a key element to the app as the majority of places I have been are not in there. If I can't add them then there is no point!

Crashing on new venue adds pretty consistently

I'll get a prompt "We don't have this place in our database. Want to add it?" that is up for about 1 second. if I can click "Yes" fast enough then I don't crash and can successfully add the venue. Otherwise I crash and the venue is not added.

Every single time I try to add a new venue, it crashes, without fail. And the update that promised to fix it, didn't. What's the status?

Same here, when checking in and when adding a new venue it crashes back to the springboard

I'm on an OG iPhone, and without fail- it *always* crashes when I add a new venue. Often times it also crashes when I have to type-in the name of a venue because it doesn't show-up in the "nearby favorites" list. The latter is only often, tho- not always. Yep, frustrating... tho at least it always reports my check-in to the FourSquare database.

Seriously, WHEN is this going to be fixed??

BS...it's NOT fun because it doesn't work. And at some point these guys plan on making money from our usage. NOTHING is free. Somewhere, sometime, someone will pay.

And shouldn't these former Google employees be top in their class? Shouldn't they have a problem like this licked by now? Seriously....

Personally, it's become so much of a PIA that I can't use it. Deleting the App, I'm done with this.

I downloaded the iPhone app yesterday, and experienced the same problem as reported in this thread. Later, I was able to add both places I tried earlier via the iPhone using the main web site (visited on my Mac) ... but neither of the new places appears in my history ... so I only have 10 points rather than 20 today. So the problems are (1) I can't add a place via the iPhone app, (2) I don't appear to get points for adding a place, and (3) I don't appear to get points for checking in to a place that's not in the database yet. The first is a technical problem; I suspect the other two are policy issues, that may or may not be part of the intended design.

At first I thought let me go Windows way of resolving things .. so I finally un-installed the application n re-installed it. Same Results Different Day !! :)
I am getting to a point where I am loosing my interest in the app.
May be I would let Naveen n company work hard on it and consider installing it when Apple comes out with next version of iPhone :)

Not only can't you follow through on a good idea, but you can't communicate with your users. Adding new places while not sitting in front of a computer at home is the only feature that *needs* to work. If you aren't going to fix it or talk to us, you need to pull the app. People have to go through the whole hell of typing everything in, usually twice or three times, before realizing what a total piece of junk it is and then give up. That is unnecessarily wasting people's time and money, which makes you total douche bags.

While 1.3.1 solved the specific behavior — crashing if proceeding in the venue add process with the keyboard still showing — it still doesn't fix the general problem that the app crashes all the time when adding venues.

It's slightly more stable than when I created this thread. But it still often quits when attempting to add a venue.

One workaround -- keep this URL bookmarked on your iPhone:

http://playfoursquare.com/add_venue

You can add a venue in your browser, and by the time you switch back to the app, the location will show up and you can check in there.

Not the ideal situation, but it will work.

Trying to add a venue (another Caribou Coffee location which was assuredly *not* already in the database) from the iPhone app first showed that I had checked in at (null), then crashed on the next attempt, then showed me at (null) on the third attempt. I then went to add it via playfoursquare.com/add_venue, confirmed that it wasn't in the list of other Caribous, but then got this error when trying to add:

Duplicate entry '51-cariboucoffee' for key 2

Not like this is life-critical, but kinda takes the fun out of it.

The latest update (v20090731) fixed the crashing on my iphone, and I'm actually able to have fun with it now.

However, I showed foursquare to a friend, and he downloaded it, and it keeps crashing on him all the time. I've watched him power-cycle his phone, did not help. It kept crashing when he tried to register, and after he finally got registered, it crashes on him when he tries check-in.

I don't know what to say, it's a shame.

Still not fixed. I add the Starbucks I am - and it checks me into a different one or it crashes. Not fun.

Still having this problem in the most recent version from a few days ago.
