Inappropriate?http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foursquare_(service)#Badges
-
Inappropriate?I found that wikipedia page, but I assume it's just what a user has managed to figure out. I was hopeful that foursquare actually had an up to date list on their site.
I’m disappointed

Inappropriate?I don't think they want to announce everything to create some element of surprise. This help page is the only thing I can find at the moment. http://playfoursquare.com/help/badges That's why I linked the Wikipedia page--because it seems to have a bit more information, at least.
I could have sworn I saw a more comprehensive list somewhere on the site, including which badges were unique to which cities.
I’m frustrated

I think your first point nailed it, it's not a scavenger hunt. It's exploration and social... go figure it out and have fun in the process. ;) -
Inappropriate?Well, I did figure out that I can see all the badges available on my iPhone, just not on the web site.
I think there's still a "gotta catch them all" feeling with knowing what's available. I initially asked because I thought of a couple badge suggestions, but I didn't want to make them if they already existed in some form or another.
They do tend to explain individual badges if you ask

Just seems like explaining them all at once on the site would be a bit less work.
I think badges in Austin (where I am) were a bit screwed up too because of SxSW, so it's been difficult to figure out what's a mistake and what's intentional. -
Inappropriate? You can also see the requirements for badges by finding a friend who has completed a badge and hovering over the image to look at the alt-tag.
It's still a very frustrating experience and I don't think it's a good idea to force the opinion of "it'll be more fun if it's a surprise".

Heh yeah, that's debatable I guess. When I play Zelda I don't buy the game guide or look up where all the ghosts are... I just play and try to figure it out. It depends on personal preference I suppose.
