Looking for more control over notifications

I looove foursquare. I really do. I love the push notifications too. But as I add more friends and the service becomes more popular, the text messages are getting really annoying. It should be easier to manage who I get pings from. One click, down the line of my contacts, no refresh. Because it's so difficult to change my settings right now, I'm tempted to turn it off. And I don't want to do that!
