Need to edit and correct venues.
Can't edit a venue. I added a venue and apparently putting in the specific room # caused Google Maps to plot the location off the coast of Africa. I'd love to edit the details so that it displays a little more correctly.

Hey all - we actually have a ton of admin tools that we use to clean things up and we're working on figuring out the best way to roll these out to you all without all hell breaking loose.
We're hoping to have this solved by the end of the week... we'll prob end up building something that automatically turns regular-users into super-users with admin super powers (edit / delete / add aliases, etc). Maybe something related to usage/ number of checkins, etc...
Anyway, stay tuned.

Inappropriate?yeah, although there's a place where you can submit the info via email to update a venue, i think it'd be a lot faster if foursquare just trusted users to edit it correctly. i don't think there would ever be an issue with a malicious person randomly putting in wrong addresses, and as long as the system kept a log of what the previous address was and who changed it (similar to a wiki) it could always be rolled back if that situation ever arose.
it'd also be significantly less work... nobody wants to go through and manually update a bunch of addresses from emails that people send. it's boring

Inappropriate?also, the site doesn't seem to allow for multiple locations of the same business
-
Yeah, I'm running into this as well. There's got to be a clever way to handle that. -
Inappropriate?similar problem as Chris's here: http://playfoursquare.com/venue?vid=4...
Though the venue is in San Francisco, the Google map shows Chicago...
Granted, I mispelled a street name...
I’m embarrased
-
Inappropriate?I realized that I had a Theatre vs. Theater issue when adding a venue and discovered that if later when you "add venue" if the name is spelled even slightly differently than how you entered it on the road it does not connect the previous check in with the new venue (and there is no way to edit a previous check in)

Dennis - Do you have existing data on who is "Adding A Venue" and how much they've already done so? This could be a quality qualifier for "Super-User"... -
So, uh, how's this coming? I've just started really actively using Foursquare and I'm big into supporting and promoting local businesses, and there are several things I'd love to be able to correct - businesses that have moved addresses, for instance. Multiple locations of the same place would be excellent to see supported as well. -
Inappropriate?Yes. :) I got a little mini algorithm that's gonna auto bump people to superuser status. Pow!

Foursquare just rolled out in Bloomington IN ( Indianapolis) , and there are a lot of duplicate locations :( .. and since it is new here I dont think there is any super user either :( -

see the change log -
is the superuser status = super user badge or is it different ? -
Inappropriate? Thanks for working on it so quickly Dennis! Foursquare (or Fourplay as we call it) thinks our little company is located off the coast of Sao Tome, which is rad, but if I'm gonna stay mayor here, I'm thinking i have to fix it and delete the erroneous duplicate before anyone else knows.
-
Inappropriate?I would add that a naming convention to support places in a mall (or guidance to say "check into the mall instead, nimrod") and multiple locations would be good.
Partially separate, when I went to add a venue, then made up my own naming convetion ("Crave - Galleria" in this case) it didn't catch my check-in at "crave" that I followed to add that venue...
I’m fine with it.
-
Inappropriate? Thanks for the super-user status! Now I can act like a tiny cleaner shrimp and appease my obsessiveness about clean data.
I’m excited
-
hahah same here now. -
Inappropriate?I'd love to be able to correct some of the capitalization. Maybe I'm a bit OCD, but it bothers me to see "IHOP" entered as "ihop"...and the lack of the number on the street address doesn't help. (This is in Boston, BTW.)
-
Inappropriate?Curious about the "Super-User" status: what does one have to do to earn it? I might (possibly...) be a little OCD too, and would really like helping to clean up some of the duplicate or misnamed venues that I've run across.
I’m kind of in the mood to help.
-
Inappropriate?Ditto. As Boston gets more users, I've been noticing more issues with duplicate/incorrect venues. Maybe it's because I've been using it so much. I've addicted to the app for over a month now.
I’m also volunteering

Inappropriate?I added a venue in the Twin Cities and it also won't let me edit the location. Google Maps plotted the cross streets incorrectly. The Venue is here: http://playfoursquare.com/venue/66012 (and yes, that dairy queen is rocking post little league games!) proper address should be: 143 Snelling Ave N, St Paul
Thanks
I’m enjoying Foursquare
-
Hey Jason, I corrected this venue for you, enjoy! -
Inappropriate?I, too, wish there was an easy way to edit a venue entry. I like the way that Yelp let's a user submit any changes via a form, even though those changes go through an approval process. I don't see any way to do this within foursquare, but like others reporting on this thread, I'd like to help make / keep the data accurate.
Meanwhile, if any super users are monitoring this thread, there are duplicate entries for Cafe Racer Seattle: Cafe Racer (which has the wrong street address, 5826 Roosevelt Ave NE) and Cafe Racer Espresso (which has the right address - though uses "N.E." vs. "NE" - but the wrong name - the owner likes to refer to this as "Cafe Racer Seattle"; here's a link to the web site: http://www.caferacerseattle.com/).
I’m undecided
-
Inappropriate?I've marked the second venue as a duplicate and corrected the address and name on the first one. Might take a little bit for the dupe to go away.
-
Inappropriate? On the same theme, I added a new venue here:
http://foursquare.com/venue/232301
But it stuck it in the wrong place. I would have been happy to correct it myself (maybe by dragging on the map, searching Google API or even manually typing a lat/lon) to correct it. The actual location is here:
http://tr.im/E1gJ (links to Google maps)
I'd be grateful if you could update.
I’m not too concerned but could be happier
-
Inappropriate?I had a somewhat similar problem with BrightKite, until I realized that they supported "search" with latitude and longitude coordinates.
That is to say, locate a venue with google maps and "search" brightkite with those coordinates.
I mention it because it may be a way to piggyback off of work done in mapping services. Also, Google maps are easier to correct now.

I’m unconcerned
-
Inappropriate?I saw a quick email a while ago about new editing capabilities. Can't find that anywhere. Can we, as users, edit location information. Lots of stuff duplicated, mis-spelled etc.
I’m getting bored
-
You can make the changes that you refer to if you have been made a "superuser" (if you are, you'll see it at the top right corner of your home screen - where it says "[user] is logged into [city]"). Superuser level 1 allows you to edit venues (name, address, phone, etc. - look for a tiny pencil icon beneath the venue information); superuser level 2 allows you to merge duplicate venues together on a separate merge screen. If there is a superuser level 3, it's top secret, and I can only aspire to know what powers it bestows... ;) -
To add to Jay's comment, I think Foursquare has been choosing users for superuser promotion about once a month (not really on a schedule, though) based on activity. You should be promoted eventually if you make a lot of checkins / keep adding tips on the site.
