Non US cities - when will they be added??
When will other cities be added?? Ones NOT in the US. I.e. Manchester, UK would be great. What would be involved in adding new cities?

Actually foursquare is available "everywhere" now - just log in and switch your city and then start checking-in and adding places!

Hey hey - just wanted you all to know that foursquare for London just launched! Go get it!

(and support for lots more cities coming soon... make sure to get on the list: to learn when your city goes live! http://foursquare.com/cities ) -
Hey all - me again.
So, new cities is another top priority for us. I'd really like to roll out Canada and London ASAP, but we need to find a solid data provider (finding someone with good data for eat + drink + art/culture/parks/etc is harder than you would think). Same problem is preventing us from rolling out US cities (and other international cities).
The good news: This is *my* big ticket item and something. And when we fix this once, we pretty much fix it everywhere. :)
(A lot of people suggested we just use the Yelp / Google / Yahoo APIs, though this is tricky cause of all the "places you've been in the past" queries we do. For these queries, we need to keep a copy our of venue data local, which is something we can't do with these APIs)
The three of us (btw, foursquare = 3 people :) have been talking about letting users roll their own cities... "Sure, we'll add St. Louis, you just fill in all the data!" which would technically work, but its a crappy user experience. Anyway, just wanted to let you know that we're on this and thinking about it.

Yes, I can check in remotely without any problem. Look me up, Lamar Morgan in Coconut Creek, FL and see that I am the Mayor at numerous places. But, my question is, is it WRONG to check in places you obviously did not physically visit at the time you "checked in." I mean, I live in Florida and have the ability to check in where I used to live, in California. Is that cheating? Will I get in trouble for having done so? My motivation is to help motivate folks where I used to live to use Foursquare by challenging them to "replace me" as the Mayor.

ack154 April 22, 2010 18:05Is it cheating? Yes. Will you get in trouble? Hard to say. If someone reports you, you may lose all of your mayorships and who knows what else (it does happen). And frankly, it's not at all in the spirit of the game. You're not actually at those places, so why would you check in? The whole point is to check in places and let your friends know where you are. Obviously they can't meet up with you in those places. And I really don't think your "motivation" reason is really good enough to justify cheating and checking in within a whole other side of the country. But like I said, it's really hard to say if anything will happen...EditDeleteRemove

Just curious: what is it you're requesting for those cities? The Foursquare service has been usable anywhere in the world for months now; being one of 4sq's superusers with additional ability to edit and merge incorrect and duplicated venues, I know that I've been doing both those things for venues in all of those cities when users have posted such requests here on the forums, so I know Foursquare is in use down there.

I just signed up today, and when I was filling in my location, I wrote "Toronto, Ontario" but when I went to view my profile, it said "Toronto, Canada." After finding this forum so I could mention that, I see in the second post in this thread that three other Canadian cities are also listed incorrectly, "Calgary, Canada", "Edmonton, Canada" and "Ottawa, Canada." They should be written exactly the same as the American cities, i.e. "Calgary, Alberta", "Edmonton, Alberta" and "Ottawa, Ontario." (city and province, not city and country). Could somebody fix this? Canada is not a single entity with a random collection of cities, it is sectioned off into ten different provinces and three territories first, then cities and towns, just like the US is also not a single entity with a random collection of cities but is sectioned off into 50 different states first, then cities and towns.

I couldn't agree more! For a company rumored to be offered $100MM this year by Yahoo you would think this would be an easy fix but then my teams have seen worse.

I've seen worse too, but honestly; It's 2010. Other American, non-social networking websites list Canadian provinces and territories, so you'd think this one would too, especially when one considers that it relies almost 100% on geographical locations. Also, Canada is the second-largest country in the world, much larger than the US. "Edmonton, Canada" doesn't really tell anyone anything. Why not just say "Charlotte, USA", then?

Actually, I would disagree dan. BECAUSE we have numerous different provinces, it isn't uncommon to have similarly named cities in different provinces. There is a Milton, NS, and a Milton, ON. If we are dropping provinces, where do I live? :-)
-
-
I'm not saying provinces shouldn't be added, just that the large amount of geographical space in canada doesn't automatically make us a large priority for the 4SQ team.

What is it you're asking to have in Chester? Foursquare has been usable worldwide for 5 months now. As noted next to the opening post, this thread asking for other, non-US cities to be added was first started 11 months ago. If you just want to be able to play Foursquare in Chester... go ahead! :-)

i'm keeping this un-muted on my email account, just trying to see when will this thread finally die. the game has been played all over the world for some time now, and people just keep asking for their cities to be added... strange... and oddly amusing.

Yes, I know all that but I wondered when we would start getting local badges. Foursquare is very US-centric at the mo. (badges for New York, Austin etc.), so it will be good to see other countries included.

I had a problem. Could you please give me some advice
Once I used to request friend to my friends but I wrongfully delete the add request before they accept my request. Now They send a request to add me in their friend list but when I press accept friend, IT's didn't work without no reason... I tried many times but now I still not get my friends in my friend list. What can I do???? -

Does foursquare have partners in the Middle East yet? I'm an American about to set-up a tech-focused VC firm here in Doha, Qatar. We'r elooking to build location finding apps to help get around the no-address problem here and in other ems - four-square APIs are a natural solution.

Really looking forward to partners in the Middle East. Religious user of Foursquare and love it! Planning on hosting a 4sqmob in Dubai, soon. Please do let me know if there is any odd jobs you need done here! :) or if you need a foursquare rep here. :) or a superuser.
