Problems logging in on mobile web.
I'm not able to sign in/check in on foursquare mobile! Been trying all day, and just keep getting back to the sign in page. I know I have the right password/phone/email address in. It's been working just fine for a week previously...so I'm not sure if it is my mobile web or the foursquare site.

Inappropriate?I'm also unable to login through the mobile website on my phone too, however logging in using a computer desktop browser seems to work so I know its not the user/pass login.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I can't even log in.
When I visit the site on my phone, I get an "XML parsing failed" error.
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate?we just identified a couple of different session issues with mobile web and we've fixed them up
can you confirm if this make mobile web work for you again?
if not, send us an email with the steps you are taking so that we can try to pinpoint exactly why these are failing (team at foursquare.com)
I’m silly
-
Inappropriate?using the rogers plan and web browser, screen continues to fresh to the mobile login page after input of login information.
-
Inappropriate?i'm having the same issue on an LG rumor phone, going to both m.foursquare.com and m.playfoursquare.com. i've reset my password and logged in successfully on my laptop, but using the same email and password on my phone, i'm sent back to the login screen every time.
please let me know if there's any more info that i can give you guys about this. i really love the site and would like to get back in the game.
I’m bummed.
-
Inappropriate?I also get an error message. Something like the "XML Parsing...." error mentioned above. That's when I use Opera Mobile. I have no trouble at all checking in with Internet Explorer Mobile. I'd prefer using Opera Mobile to check in as I already use it for most of my other mobile browsing.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I had an issue last night as well. I checked in at the movies and it worked fine. A few hours later I checked in at dinner and it brought me to some random page on the mobile site with only a header and a footer, no content. It never checked me in. My girlfriend checked in via SMS at the same time and it worked during at the movies, but not at dinner.
Been having lots of check-in issues since I signed up.
-
Inappropriate?I'm having this issue as well I use Verizon's Mobile Web & enter the URL:http://m.foursquare.com. Once there, I'm prompted to login in with my e-mail address & password. After I've entered it, I hit submit, but then it brings me back to the login screen again. I've had this problem for the past week; prior to this, this was never an issue.
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?Having the same issue, Nokia 5555 on Fido (Rogers) network in Ontario. Eagerly awaiting solution!
I’m with Rogers
-
Inappropriate?LG Dare user, but desperately coveting the Motorola Droid... I intermittently have the issues described here for mobile web. Also, some recent change to foursquare makes my browser not remember my recent input. So on the login screen, instead of typing the first character of my email address and then selecting the thing that pops up, I have to type in the *entire* address every time...
-
Inappropriate?I'm also haveing this problem, I thought it was fido's falt or my phone..but i usto be able to sign in untill 2 weeks ago
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Hey all - sorry about this drama. We're re-writing our mobile website to work with our new code and a small percentage of users have been having login problems on our mobile website (this ranges from having to log in every time to not being able to log in at all)
The good news is that we're pushing the new code live this week. This will clean up all these login problems and make the mobile website much more usable.
Sorry again for all the problems, but thanks for sticking thru with us as we slowly fix everything. (and FYI - masterplan for us is to be 100% up and running on new code - and more importantly, finally building new features - by Thanksgiving time!)
-d -
Inappropriate?Haven't been able to check in by mobile web (Verizon) in a couple of weeks, it doesn't recognize me & spits me back out. .
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?Good to hear from foursquare that the problem is being worked on. Intermittently for the past week or two I have had the same issue on my LG Rumor (maybe it's the Rant? I forget, but it's the older one of the two). And texts don't always work or I don't get a confirmation text back. It's been a little frustrating.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Yeah, we're like a day away from pushing new mobile_web code. Will fix all the login BS that's been plaguing us. Thx for your patience!
-
Inappropriate? As annoying as it's been, I have to be a bit of a supportive sap and say I'm happy to see Foursquare has gotten so popular y'all are having to upgrade and stuff. I even saw a FSQ Halloween costume on Saturday. :D
-
Inappropriate? Was unable to check in, and after logging out to see if that would fix anything, I am now unable to log in on my Blackberry.
-
Inappropriate? Thanks for fixing the website :) had a few little errors earlier with multiple confirmation windows but after reloading the page several times, was able to access the mobile website!
-
Inappropriate?I was able to log in on my mobile browser for the first time in two weeks today! Yay!
I’m thankful
-
Inappropriate?for some reason, i cant even get to the log in page of m.foursquare.com on my phone. it just keeps loading and loading. nothing loads up, only the AT&T logo as the background. i can get into facebook and google and all those other sites though..
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?Still having problems, Nokia 6555 on Fido (Rogers). Logged in at m.foursquare.com, got "redirect to another server" message a bunch of times and then "unsupported content type". Reloaded page, was logged in. Annoying but effective, I guess, but less than ideal.
I’m caffeinated.
-
Inappropriate?I just was able to sign in for the first time in weeks. At first, it gave me an "unknown content error" but after I restarted my browser on my phone, everything was golden.
-
Inappropriate?Awesome. I think we've solved these problems.. if you are still having problems logging in to our mobile website try clearing you mobile browser cache and restarting your phone.
Seems to be working for everyone who tries.
Thanks all! (esp for you patience!) -
Inappropriate?yea.. i did that but the thing is, i cant even get to the log in page
-
Really? What page are you seeing instead? Does it work from your regular web browser? http://m.foursquare.com -
i tried m.foursquare.com and foursquare.com
my phone's nothing special though, just a samsung a727 -
Inappropriate?I cleared my cache and restarted my phone. I'm still getting the same error.
I’m frustrated
-
Hmmm what error are you seeing Stu? -
"xml parsing failed"
syntax error
line:2, character: 0
I click on "reparse as html"
that let's me log in but then I see the same error
I click on "reparse..." again and I see a foursquare page. It says:
foursquare
stuart in cleveland
and that's it. -
Stu, could you please send the phone model and service you are using to nathan@foursquare.com? Thanks! -
It's an HTC touch diamond
windows mobile 6.1
opera mobile 9.5
sprint
This time, I clicked on "reparse as html" and I got the complete page that I see when I use Internet Explorer Mobile. But, all I saw was "stuart in cleveland" when I tried to check the leader board - after clicking on "reparse as html", of course. -
So near as I can tell, this works in Opera (http://www.opera.com/mini/demo/). Trying to figure out what I need in order to test on Windows Mobile - stay tuned... -
Opera Mobile and Opera Mini are different things. I don't understand the difference, but they're definitely different somehow.
Thanks. -
Hmm... Can't seem to duplicate the problem in the Windows Mobile Emulator (w/ IE) - everything is working fine. Will keep trying... -
It works for me in IE mobile. -
OK, so I misunderstood... So it's Opera Mobile that's the problem? Still hunting for an emulator so I can test. -
Inappropriate?Clearing/restarting improved (but did not solve) the problem on my Canadian Fido (Rogers) Nokia 6555. To log in, I enter my creds at m.foursquare.com, then get a series of "data will be redirected to another server" messages until it dies with "unsupported content type." Then I reload the page, and I'm logged in. I use the same procedure to add a venue. Checking in works after one redirect message, and everything else seems to be ok.
If someone says "your network is terrible, your phone is too old and it's never going to work for you" I would accept that as a solution. I might even go buy a new phone. It would be nice to know someone looked into it though.
I’m not going to renew my contract
-
Inappropriate? It is broken again for me, on my cell phone (standard Nokia candybar style phone). If I log in to the mobile site on my friend's iPhone it works though.
-
Inappropriate?Couple of things to try:
- Clear you browser cache and cookies
- Make sure you are pointing to http://foursquare.com/mobile and not http://m.foursquare.com
- Use the submit button instead of the enter key to submit the form - this is a bug, and I'm looking into it
- There's a known issue with Opera Mobile 8.x that I'm currently investigating that throws an XML parsing error
Hope that helps! If not, contact me directly at nathan@foursquare.com

Inappropriate?Hey all - just an update on this. We still see this problem with some devices, we still trying to track down what's causing it, we still recommending Nathan's tips above as your best bet to fix them. :)
Just so you know, Blackberry app has long been in the works (and we gettign close)... get on the beta list and we'll try to get those of you who are having problems, something to play with:
http://foursquare.com/mobile_beta
Thanks again for all your patience with this! -
Are you actively pushing out beta invites or are you just collecting addresses at this time? I've just about given up on foursquare, unfortunately. -
Collecting addresses with the thought of giving you something to play with over the holiday :) -
Make sure you're on the mobile beta list! http://foursquare.com/mobile_beta) -
Inappropriate?I also can't log on through the standard web interface or foursquare.com/mobile through my phone. It doesn't even give any errors, which is the same "silent fail" it did before.
-
Yeah, this makes me think it's an issue with how our new setup handles cookies / sessions... stay tuned! (and get on the beta list! http://foursquare.com/mobile_beta) -
Inappropriate? This problem and a lack of BB app is really making it frustrating to participate in foursquare. :-(
I’m frustrated
-
Yeah, I know. Really sucks. Make sure you're on that mobile_beta list! -
Inappropriate? Thanks foursquare guys for all your attentiveness and help with this issue. I really appreciate your patience with us and know applications aren't developed overnight and problems take time to troubleshoot :)
I’m thankful
-
Ha, OUR patience? You guys are the ones being super patient. So, thank you! -
Inappropriate? There seems to be an issue with certain versions of the BB browser and how it validates XHTML. There have been reports that changing the browser's identification to "Internet Explorer" fixes the problem. Can folks who are still experiencing issues give this a shot and let me (nathan@foursquare.com) know if it resolves the issues?
From the browser:
Options -> Browser Configuration -> Browser Identification
Make sure it's set to "Internet Explorer" and then "Save Options"
2 people say
this solves the problem
-
Inappropriate? Thanks, I'll try setting it to IE and see if that makes a difference.
-
Inappropriate?Unfortunately, I do not even have that as an option. I can only set to "BlackBerry".
-
same this is happening to me, but then I if you use the WAP browser, it will work -
Inappropriate?I am not using a blackberry, I am using an LG NV2 so I am really not sure that I can change the internet browser settings. I've tried restarting the browser, restarting the phone, going to the foursquare.com/mobile site instead of m.foursquare.com but it doesn't seem to make a difference
I’m frustrated
