10.6 + Xmarks for Safari = Still Not Working
Xmarks for Safari 4.0.3 still does not work well under Mac OS 10.6.1. Over the last several weeks, I've reinstalled the Xmarks PrefPane & downloaded a fresh set of bookmarks under the advanced tab (both many, many times) and it STILL consistently will just stop running. It will work BRIEFLY after an "overwrite of local bookmarks" but over time will just die. After a system restart, I get a message the Mac & server are out of sync
.
If I notice Xmarks has stopped running and just restart Xmarks from within System Prefs it acts like everything is fine but as soon as I click on Synchronize now, it stops. Then I have to repeat the same process of a fresh overwrite (download) from the Advanced Tab, which will make it work for a while, but will ALWAYS eventually die. This behavior never happened under 10.5 and never happens with Firefox.
It seems to have something to do with not communicating with the server correctly; somehow it loses its ability to login and get the most recent changes, so it gives up and stops running.
This is a long-standing problem (since 10.6) which is still unresolved.

Inappropriate?Hi rowan: There's a couple of places we can look for more error information that will probably help. Could you email support@xmarks.com (mention you came from this thread so I can keep track) and include a couple of things:
(1) Console output.
(2) Debug info zip file.
Here's how to get those:
(1) /Applications/Utilities/Console, hit "clear display" to make it easier, now reproduce the problem where Xmarks dies. If there are log lines in the console, capture those (Edit > Select All, then File > Save Selection As). Attach that file to the email.
(2) In Xmarks prefs after you make the error happen, go to Help tab, Debig Report button. Attach the file created to the email.
Hopefully there will be something in there I can use to get you working again... or be able to tell you are hitting a bug we're still working on.
