"Error while writing to favorites"
I keep running up against this message: "Internal error while writing to your favorites. Xmarks Exception [source: windows_shell, id -2147024894]: SHParseDisplayName for Links folder error". Using IE7 and Vista. Any advice? It blocks all my attempts to overwrite my local favourites with a download.

Inappropriate?Well yikes. I just looked at the code that generates that error and I've never seen it generate an error before. I can't find any reports of anyone on the internet running into an issue with the Windows function I'm using, either. :(
I assume you're still having problems? What version (and language) of Windows and IE are you using? -
Inappropriate?Without my doing anything I'm aware of, this error message has been replaced by another one when I try to synch: "Xmarks Exception [source: internal, id: -50] Conflict: duplicate nids detected on insert WyFCy; bnid 6pJrG3,bnid:" Actually, the gobbledegook at the end there seems to change with a fresh attempt to synch! It's Internet Explorer 7 and Windows Vista in English. Thanks for your help.

Inappropriate? It sounds like Xmarks for IE might be a little confused right now. :) Can you try going to the advanced settings and manually starting a download? If that succeeds it should get everything back on the same page.
Hope this helps,

Inappropriate?I have the same error, and I think I know what's happening. A short time ago I was cleaning up my PC and inadvertently deleted my favorites folder. Now, IE will not allow storage or display of favorites. I've tried to go back and rebuild the folder, but from the research I have done, this error has no solutions. According to what I've read, Vista creates folders with unique IDs and when a folder is deleted, IE remembers that unique ID. Even rebuilding the folder will not direct IE to see and accept it. Any input, advice, correction, or snide remarks would be appreciated.
I’m loving Firefox, hating IE

Hrm, so if you go to C:\Users\[your username]\ and create a new folder called "Favorites" there IE doesn't like that? That would be very annoying. :( -
Inappropriate? That's correct. There's something about the unique identifier with the original folder that gives you the finger when you re-create the folder.
-
Wow, that sucks. :( And you've tried creating a new Favorite in IE (hoping that IE can somehow recreate the Favorite folder correctly)? -
Inappropriate?I'm having a similar problem due to a deleted "links" folder in Windows Explorer. Causes XMarks to constantly think that the server file is newer and gives me a popup about every 5 minutes even after I try to download, which returns the error:
Internal error while writing to your Favorites: XmarksException [source: windows_shell, id: 2]: Error deleting local folder: C:\Users\...\Favorites\Links\...\...\...
(The ellipsis is used for personal file paths for privacy's sake)
I hate IE, and wouldn't even use it at all, except it is the embedded browser in FeedDemon. My bread & butter is firefox, but I have to use IE in this instance.
Any thoughts? -
That's a new error for me. I actually just finished up a new version of Xmarks for IE. It hasn't been officially released yet, but you can download it from: https://static.xmarks.com/clients/ie/...
Can you try installing the update and see if that cleans things up for you?
