Auto-sync Question
Hi guys, this my first post here. I only installed xmarks tonight so please forgive the noob question :)
I have IE8 & FF3.0.10 on my PC, i intend to have the same two on a laptop. xmarks is installed on both browsers on the PC.
When i add a bookmark in FF and then close the browser, it uploads to my.xmarks fine. However, when i open IE the new bookmark isn't there. Do i have to sync manually from the taskbar every time it want it sync't or is it supposed to do it automatically?
Also, providing everything is the same on the laptop, will the bookmarks sync auto style or will i have to do it manually.
Thanks in advance for your answers :)

Inappropriate?Hey rsvr85,
Thanks for using Xmarks! Xmarks sync functionality will behave based on the settings you choose for it. Xmarks for IE and Firefox both have the following sync settings:
Auto Sync:
If you have auto sync selected, Xmarks will auto sync roughly every 5 minutes. This is great for seamlessly keeping your bookmarks in sync with minimal effort. Remember to make sure your Xmarks username and password are remembered throughout each browser session, otherwise an authentication pop up will display each time auto sync runs.
Sync on Shutdown:
In Firefox, if sync on shutdown is selected, Xmarks will sync when Firefox is shut down. However, it will only sync if there are changes made to your bookmarks or passwords.
In IE, sync on shutdown doesn't occur when IE is closed, but rather when Windows is shutdown, or IE for Xmarks is manually closed from the system tray.
Manual sync:
- Merge:
This occurs when you select "Sync Now" from either the Xmarks Settings window or Xmarks Tool menu. This will merge your changes in the browser with what is currently on the Xmarks server.
- Upload:
This occurs when you select "Upload" from the Xmarks Advanced Settings. This will overwrite what is currently on the Xmarks Servers with what is contained in your browser.
- Download:
This occurs when you select "Download" from the Xmarks Advanced Settings. This will overwrite what is currently in your browser with what is contained in the Xmarks Server.
Hope this helps, and happy syncing!
