automatic logon
When starting me "main computer" (IE7), the computer always asks for my logon information. My laptop does not. How can I make my main computer automatically logon?

Inappropriate?Hi Steve,
It sounds like you're using Xmarks for IE, is that right? When the sign in dialog pops up, there should be a little "Remember my password" checkbox. If you check that, your user information should be saved.
Let me know if this doesn't work!

Inappropriate?Yes. this is with the Xmarks for IE. Yes, I've set the "remember" box each time but it still won't auto-logon.
-
Inappropriate?Hrm okay well it certainly should be remembering your password. What version of Windows are you using?
-
Inappropriate?Window's XP SP3 with all of the latest patches, etc. I am also using CA Internet Security 2009 suite for my firewall, AV, etc. I have noticed that I usually need to do the logon twice before it actually believes it.

Inappropriate?Curious. We store your user information in Windows' authentication system, which should save it correctly for you. We can try to verify that the information is actually being saved there, though. After (successfully) signing in, can you try doing the following:
- Open the start menu and select the "Run..." option. This should open a little dialog box.
- In that dialog, type (or copy and paste) the follow: rundll32.exe keymgr.dll, KRShowKeyMgr. This should open the Windows password manager.
Do you see anything in there for login.foxmarks.com or login.xmarks.com? You should. If you do, can you click it and hit the "Edit" button? You should see your user name and password (although your password will look like ******). If you don't see both a user name and a password than something isn't being stored correctly. You can hit cancel to close the edit window without making any changes.
If you do see all of that, can you try restarting Windows and, before signing back in, repeat the steps above to see if the password manager still has your signin information?
This is a little complicated, I know. Let me know if some of the directions don't make sense.

Inappropriate? There are no entries in this info box. Can I manually enter the information here? It appears that all I need to know would be the server. It would be interesting to see if Password Manager will remember something placed this way.
After checking the above info, I signed out of Xmarks and signed back in. I then checked the password manager again and it was still blank. -
Inappropriate?I just tried it out, and it looks like you should be able to add a new entry there manually. Here's what I did:
- Clicked the Add... button
- For "Log on to:" enter "login.xmarks.com" or "login.foxmarks.com" (if you're still using Foxmarks)
- Enter your user name and password in correct fields
- Use "A web site or program credential" for "Credential type"
After saving that information we should pull that from Windows without bugging you again. Let me know if this works! -
Hi Colin,
Your comments do not apply to Windows XP because in that case, KeyMgr has no "Credential Type" option. So when entering the username, KeyMgr complains because it wants something like domain\username or username@domain.
So this trick doesn't work with XP and the problem is still there which is very annoying.
Regards.

Colin,
If there is no way to reload or repair KeyMgr.dll, perhaps Xmarks programmers need to find another way to store and pass the username and password. What is wrong with adding an encrypted file to the setup. This file can easily contain the login info and be securly passed back and forth. This scheme would be workable with any operating system or environment and not rely on processes Xmarks has no control over.
It shouldn't be this hard or take this long to correct.

Inappropriate? This is evidently what is causing the trouble. My main computer say's, "Windows cannot save logon information. Make sure information is correct and all fields are completed." My laptop does not have the "add" box enabled so I can't even try it there.
I've tried to find info about keymgr.dll but there doesn't seem to be much available. Could this be caused by a security/password protection setting? -
Inappropriate?Colin:
When I opened the Stored User Names and Passwords dialogue it was blank. I tried adding my username and password as typed into the Xmarks log-on dialogue but SUNP wants the form username@computername. I'll let you know if that works.
By the way, Google Chrome is my default browser. Could this affect the ability to write the username and password to the Windows database? My wife users IE because she is familiar with it.

Hi Hedley,
No, using Chrome as your primary browser shouldn't have any impact on things. As for the error you saw, it sounds like you tried to add a new "Windows logon" credential not a "Web site or program" credential. Do you see an option to select the "Credential Type"? -
Inappropriate?No..

Inappropriate?I have this problem as well, but only on my work computer (XP SP2), not on my home computer (Vista 64). I tried to add the info into the password manager box, but it disappears after restart. I also have no "credential type" option. I checked on my home computer, and it has a credential type option, so maybe this is something new MS added into Vista which does not appear n XP. If you can figure this one out, please let me know. It's very frustrating. Thank you.
I’m frustrated!!!

Inappropriate?Update on this problem. My laptop hard drive crashed and I had to replace it. I reloaded XP, did all the updates, etc. Reloaded my programs and of course Xmarks. It now remembers the password. I assume reloading KEYMGR.DLL corrects the problem. I wonder if there is a way to reload KEYMGR.DLL without having to trash the hard drive first ;-). I didn't see much on Microsoft about doing this.
