Inappropriate?Hey C,
Thanks for the post! There are two ways of accomplishing this. The first is what you suggested by creating two separate Xmarks accounts for each browser. The benefits for this approach is that your Favorites(IE) and Bookmarks(FF) will be completely separate, but will require managing two Xmarks accounts.
The second approach would be to have one Xmarks account, but with two separate profiles, one for Firefox and one for IE. However, this will require you to initially merge your IE and Firefox data into one data set, and from there, specify which data is going to what profile at my.xmarks.com. Either choice requires some management, so have fun!
Hope that helps! -
Inappropriate? If I could request an enhancement, I would suggest that xmarks have the ability to distinguish between browser specific bookmarks. For example, the "place:..." bookmarks that Firefox uses, does not work with the other browsers. It would be nice for xmarks to recognize these browser specific differences so that they don't get synced to the other browser types. Ideally, it would use a special "tag" so that, if desired, the user could remove such a tag to override the default behavior and/or add such tags to other bookmarks to prevent them from syncing with other browser types.
This would allow profiles to embody the more abstract distinctions between bookmarks (e.g., work, home, etc.) from the concrete differences due to browser differences.
I’m mildly frustrated.

Inappropriate?I agree it would be SUPER if xmarks coud SEE the difference and possibly even do a color/or font difference so that you'd know which brower initially marked it. I don't really like the idea of having to have to manage two sets of bookmarks...that is what caused me to stumble upon xmarks. (bookmark AUTO management)
I still think xmarks rock.....but keep improving.
