Drag and drop bookmark functionality lost in Firefox 3.5
On upgrading to Firefox 3.5 the drag and drop url (from url field) to bookmarks folder (in bookmarks toolbar) functionality is gone. This has happened on 3 of my machines; one running OS X: 10.5.7 and two running 10.4.11. This is not a firefox issue because if I disable the xmarks add-on and restart Firefox the functionality returns. Is this a bug that will be fixed?
Thanks
Jim

Inappropriate?OK I think I've noticed something, if you drag the little icon to the left of the URL field over the folder this works! It's a bit subtle - but actually an improvement as you don't have to highlight the URL itself.

THANK YOU jimlad01, you just totally unscrambled my mind and unfrustrated me from the past 3 months of this happening. -
YES!!!!! That's it. I was going nuts without my drag and drop. I bookmark like a crazy person. Thank you -
jimlad01, thank you from Tokyo as well. I was going bananas trying to figure out the same exact issue. Yes, clicking and dragging only the icon to the URL address rather then having to highlight first the entire URL address is a welcome feature. However, it would be nice if Mozilla would document this somehow so people don't need to discover things by 'hit-and'miss' processes.
Now the only other issue is, I used to be able to drag a URL to an open Skype window and by doing so, it would add the title of the article as well as append the URL to the article right below the title. This does not seem to work any longer. If any way has some idea how this can be done, if it still can be done, I'd appreciate shedding some light on this function. Thanks. -
That didn't work for me -
Inappropriate?Worked perfectly fine for me, and apparently the others who commented above as well. Need to drag the URL icon (NOT the URL address) to a folder on the bookmark toolbar, not the URL address. Good luck.

It seems to have worked for a lot of other people as well, unfortunately not for me and I am dragging the icon, not the URL. Thanks for responding though -- I posted the problem on mozilla's forum page hoping to get an answer -- I'm kinda lost without being able to drag & drop bookmarks. -
Finally got the problem solved -- only after I lost the ability to bookmark completely!!!! When I did a search for something like "Firefox Bookmark Not Saved" I found the solution that worked for me. It turns out some files were corrupted in the Profile folder (who knew I had such a thing) and I need to simple delete them which forced Firefox to re build them. Now everything is back to normal -- Yeah!!!! Here is a link to the instructions I followed that solved the problem for me:
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/B...
and I followed what was said in under the "Places database file" header. -
Inappropriate?I had found the workaround/fix by dragging the icon instead of the whole address bar. But this only works for http sites not for https as the icon changes to a bigger and bolder one showing that you are currently using encryption for that website (and making the certificate available).
You can try it with https://www.logmein.com or https://www.gmail.com
If someone else has a fix... please share. -
Actually, it also works on those sites, you just have to drag the little icon and not the word. I just tried that on gmail, don't drag the word gmail.com, instead drag the envelope icon. Hope this helps! -
Inappropriate? Thanks Bruno, I understand what they did now. ;)
It does work well if you drag the portion where the icon is/was instead of the expanded section with the wording "google.com".
Thanks again and hope it helps others as well
I’m thankful
