Failed Xmarks sync via proxy with password
Xmarks syncs Safari and Firefox fine from home, but not Safari at uni. Gives this error (with "---" replacing uni name):

Inappropriate?Sadly we have fairly basic proxy plumbing. However you should be able to supply username and password for some common proxies like this:
username:password@host:port
This leverages the URL spec for optional username/passwords - it's not something we're parsing, just something that the networking layer is using.
I setup a test squid proxy that requires auth, and dropped this into the proxy settings: max:supersecret@10.68.11.11:3128 and it worked. This may not work for your proxy - we don't have comprehensive support in this area. -
Inappropriate?Same issue, tried to use your solution but it didn't work. I haven't had any issues using other apps (ie Dropbox) unfortunately only Xmarks. Anything in the works for this?

We have a list of enhancements we need to put into the proxy handling (auth, automatic switching) but we don't have the resources to get to it soon. Sorry :( -
Inappropriate?I use Authoxy (http://www.hrsoftworks.net/Products.p...) on my Mac to get around a lot of authentication-related hassles with our proxy servers - it acts as a non-authenticating proxy on your local machine and handles all of the communication with the real proxy, so your software doesn't need to know about authentication.
However, even this fails with Xmarks Safari (the only thing I have come across that does not work with the Authoxy solution). It gives the following error:
Error: sendRequest failed on: https://login.xmarks.com/login/signtoken: URLError(sslerror(8, 'EOF occurred in violation of protocol'),)
