Foxmarks 2.5 freezes Firefox

I just upgraded to the latest version of Foxmarks (v2.5) and now Firefox freezes as soon as it tries to synchronize my bookmarks. I have not turned on the password synch yet. Firefox froze 6 times in a 10 minute period this morning. I disabled Foxmarks and Firefox has been working fine since then. I'm running Firefox 3.0.3 on Fedora 8. Can you tell me if this is a known problem? How can I find out when it is safe to get a new version and turn Foxmarks on again?

    I am having much the same problem. I am running Firefox on 32 bit Windows XP (Home Edition at home and Professional Edition at work) and Firefox hung for over an hour before I gave up and shut it down. (At work I disabled it, downloaded the previous version, disabled the Update check, and re-enabled the extension.) In addition, my customized toolbars got seriously messed up, and had to be rearranged again, including my Google Toolbar. I wonder if the fact that password synchronization was added to this release, and my passwords are stored in LastPass rather than in Firefox?

    I have an issue potentially related to this - immediately after installing 2.5 and restarting, my toolbars were scrambled and I was missing most of my buttons. After I restarted again, I got all but one of my buttons back but now nothing shows in my FF Awesome Bar. I haven't uninstalled and reinstalled like Sean Murphy, but I'm about to. Not to happy with this update.

    @Russ: This sounds like your Firefox profile might've been corrupted; you might want to check in with Mozilla about that (they're also present here on GetSatisfaction). There's not anything Foxmarks does that should cause Firefox profile corruption, but do please let us know if you trace the problem directly back to Foxmarks!

    @Sean: Thanks for the timely report. We're working on the freezing problem.

    Regarding the cluttering of your customized toolbars, it appears that Foxmarks and one or more of your other toolbars are clashing. Another person has reported to us that Google Toolbar and Foxmarks may be clashing. Would you mind helping us figure out which of your toolbars are not working with Foxmarks? One way to do this would be to disable everything except for Foxmarks and then re-enable it one by one until an issue occurs.

    @Nbc: We are aware of this issue. It seems to only occur on Linux. We are working towards a fix. This problem is being addressed in this thread.

    @Sean Murphy: Sean, since you're on Windows and you experienced bookmark ordering problems, you're likely seeing something different. We'll start looking into that problem. Would you mind sending your log to our support email found on our help page?

    @Sean: thank you for the timely report. We're working hard to reproduce and fix this as soon as possible.

    From Sean's and other reports, it appears that Firefox hangs during sync for some people.

    If you have experienced this problem, we need your help!

    Please post your Javascript console log here (learn how), or send it to us via the support link found at the bottom of this page. This log will help us see exactly what went wrong and resolve this issue speedily.

    I have a similar problem. I installed 2.5 and went through the wizard. After I enter my PIN for passwords it goes to the next page and just sits there. Nothing in the Java console to report. If I press the back button to either try reentering my PIN or to opt out of the password sync the NEXT button is grayed out. I have to restart firefox to get the wizard to come up and then not choose password sync. Seems to work fine without the password sync.

    i am having the same issue! Hangs with setting the pin. No other problems. XP SP2.

    We've created a test version of the client that collects a lot more data about what's going on inside our add-on. If you would like to help, please install this version and reproduce the issue. Once you've been able to reproduce it, please send us your Foxmarks log (instructions here).

    Please be warned: this is only a test client to help us determine how to resolve this issue. This version of the client is not intended to be used in the long term and you should upgrade as soon as a new version is available on the official Mozilla site.

    Installed the test client, restarted firefox and went to Settings and enabled password sync. Entered my PIN, hit next and it just sits there for ever and ever. Here is the output from the log:

    Running XP Pro SP3, Firefox 3.0.3 with IE VIEW, Download Statusbar, Colorful Tabs and of course Foxmarks. Hope this helps. I will try it on my Vista machine at home (it is the machine I initially created my PIN on) to see if this occurs there as well.

    We're getting a better picture from your feedback, but we still need some more data since we still can't reproduce this issue here.

    If you can, please send us your Foxmarks log from the first computer that you were able to successfully sync passwords with (instructions here).

    Also, please send us a list of the other add-ons that you have installed.

    Do you happen to have the earlier parts of your log file? In particular, we'd like to see the logs when you initially set up password sync on that first computer.

    The giant log with the date of 2008-10-14. There is nothing earlier because it is a fresh install of the operating system, Firefox and Foxmarks. It was with 2.5 and not the fix. I can also replicate the problem on any other computer. Below is the log for my tablet pc:

    The log above is from my tablet. Should I install 2.5.1 on the Vista machine and get the log? Really don't wanna break it on this machine since it is working.

    You shouldn't have to install 2.5.1 on your Vista machine if it's working; it would just be nice to get earlier information from that log file if you only clipped the bottom part of it.

    I'm still having the problem. Using latest Firefox (3.0.3) I just re downloaded from the web site and re-installed foxmarks 2.5.3. Can't sync and can't log on. All my foxmarks bookmarks seem to have disappeared. This is on my laptop, work computer may be OK.

    So now I am running foxmarks on the web using internet explorer.

    also, on internet explorer I could log in fine, but when I tried to submit the previous post, it asked me to log in again and wouldnt accept my email and password (which I had just used to log in before) and so I had to create a new login.

    Foxmarks 1.0.1 isn't supported any longer unless you're using your own server. Previous versions of Foxmarks can be found at the Mozilla add-ons site, but we'd really like to get to the root of the problem, if at all possible.     I added the foxmarks plug-in to firefox 3 in Ubuntu and it hangs on startup. Can't get to tools menu to disable, so this is being done in konqueror. hope you find a solution soon.

    You should be able to start Firefox in Safe Mode to uninstall Foxmarks. Was it Foxmarks 2.5.3 that caused this for you?

    tried to start Ubuntu firefox in safe mode - in terminal window - firefox -safe-mode

    no difference in the start up.

    still freezes

    do I need to uninstall "all that is firefox" from inside synaptic package manager?
