On Windows you can right-click on any folder of bookmarks and choose the "Sort by Name" option. This will perform a one-time persistent alphabetical sort of your bookmarks which will get synchronized to other browsers via Foxmarks. On Mac OS, this feature is only available from within the folders displayed by the Library window (Bookmarks -> "Organize Bookmarks...").
Alternately, if you just want to see them sorted alphabetically in Firefox use the Library window. While viewing any given folder, you can click on the "Name" column header and see a temporarily sorted view.

Inappropriate?There's no way to do this in the default install of Firefox 3 presently. There might be an extension available that does it, though.

Inappropriate?To Sort Bookmarks in Firefox 3....
Bookmarks > Organise Bookmarks > RIGHT CLICK Bookmark Menu and sort By name.

Inappropriate?To permanently change the order of a Firefox 3 folder: 1. Get the bookmarks in a folder in the order you want (sort, etc.) 2. Select all the bookmarks in the folder. 3. Cut and then Paste the bookmarks into the same folder.
The bookmarks will now stay in this order when you open the folder again!
