Foxmarks can be uninstalled like any other Firefox extension. See this page for step-by-step instructions.

Inappropriate?Hi,
that's the Theory. But since I upgraded to Firfox 3 I cannot uninstall Foxmarks 1.0.2 - all options are greyed out.
Is there a way to uninstall manually (I use Iceweasel 3.0.1 on Debian Etch)?
Thanks.
Stefan. -
Inappropriate? There never actually was a Foxmarks version 1.0.2--if you mean 1.0.1, and all options are greyed out, I think that means that Foxmarks isn't actually installed currently.
If you upgrade from Firefox 2 to Firefox 3 and have extensions installed that aren't compatible with Firefox 3 (such as earlier versions of Foxmarks), Firefox retains a record that the extension was installed, but doesn't actually use that extension.
If you'd like it removed from the list for completeness's sake, the only way I can think of would be to re-install Firefox 2, remove the extension, then switch back to Firefox 3.
Ultimately, though, Mozilla is going to be the better resource for working out such oddities. -
Inappropriate?Foxmarks has driven my MacBookPro in FF3 to a grinding beachball spinning halt. I uninstalled it just as the above claims works, yet Foxmarks settings are still visible in about:config and my machine continues to display "bookmark sync in progress" at the bottom of my screen.
Where do I find the silver stake to drive into the heart of this waywad extension?
I’m pissed off

Judging from the photo you posted on your blog, the problem you're having is with the Delicious extension, not Foxmarks. Please consult the Delicious forum instead. -
Ouch thanks for identifying that- my apologies for unfairly slamming foxmarks -
Inappropriate?cogdog, the about:config settings staying behind is normal for any Firefox extension, and shouldn't affect Firefox performance at all. The fact that Firefox still displays "bookmark sync in progress" suggests to me that Firefox might not have been restarted after uninstalling Foxmarks. If it still shows after a restart, then that's behavior we've never seen before, and you would seem to have something highly unusual in your configuration.
Let's cross that bridge if it rears its ugly head, though. For now, let us know if a clean shutdown and restart of Firefox doesn't fix things.
Also, if Foxmarks causes a serious slowdown in Firefox, that's usually due to the initial synchronization of more than 5,000 bookmarks. Anything beyond 1,000 bookmarks or so really requires pretty decent hardware to process smoothly. -
Inappropriate?cogdog: A colleague forwarded your blog post to me; it sounds like you have restarted Firefox multiple times, and yet the Foxmarks message persists. This seems to suggest that your extensions files for Firefox have been corrupted.
If Firefox isn't properly uninstalling Foxmarks, you'll need to try some of the suggestions that Mozilla has on their support page for that issue:
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/C...
...if none of those work, the next thing I would try is what you mention on your blog--try a new Firefox profile (this will work around the problem of the extension store corruption). If you backup your profile directory first, you could also try more dangerous things like deleting the Foxmarks extension directory while Firefox isn't running; that directory probably looks something like:
/Users/BLORT/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/BLORT.default/extensions/foxmarks-at-kei.com
"BLORT" will be different values on your computer. I don't know if Firefox will start back up gracefully after an extensions directory is deleted out from under it, though, so definitely make sure to back up your profile directory before trying this--as I said, this is a more dangerous thing, so I don't really suggest trying it. A new Firefox profile is probably your best option.
Sorry you're having such trouble with this--Firefox is generally pretty reliable when it comes to storing its data in your profile directory, but sometimes file corruption can really twist things up. -
Inappropriate?Whoops--somebody just pointed out to me that the synchronization message cogdog is seeing isn't one that Foxmarks causes. Duh me. The problem would seem to not be Foxmarks for you, cogdog.

Yes- I feel silly for pointing the finger at the wrong extension and will post an updated blog. But wow, GetSatisfaction really works! -
Inappropriate?this thing has a mind of its own! I am soooo tired of being constantly asked to sign in "sync in progress" .....what a mess!!! But thanks Eric for at least trying to help! I'm going to throw my computer out the window and see if that helps!!!!
I’m frustrated
-
Sorry for the frustration, j! Please note that we at Foxmarks do not recommend defenestration of any computers, as serious damage to passers-by can result.
If you want to post some more specific details on what you're seeing, we're happy to help as best we can. -
Inappropriate?I loaded the foxmarks to my safari browser on my MAC and it has totally blocked my use of the browser as it contuously pops up asking me for my password every time I try to open the browser . When I enter my password it is rejected. I tried to change the password but the safari instructions to do so say to open the general tab and click "change password" which is not in the tabs menu of general tab. I have also tried to uninstall as well to no avail, the password pop up still appears. HELP this is a FUBAR

Inappropriate?I have given my old computer to my parents and wish to get rid of my current bookmarks in firefox without deleting my account since I'm still using firefox and my xmarks account in my new computer. How do I go about doing that?
-
Hi Michelle,
I recommend uninstalling Xmarks from Firefox on your old computer and then using Firefox's Bookmark Organizer to remove your bookmarks. That will still leave your bookmarks available to any other browser where you have Xmarks running. -
Inappropriate?Being a www.greenhorn I try to find out means and ways to optimize my
handling problems and surprises unasked for. My experiences with
"Xmarks" are frustratingly negativ :I ́m constantly interrupted being asked for
my password, trying to solve this anoying problem they refuse my official
e-mail datas, and I don ́t know what happens if I just delet my account,
there is a fair chance to be aked again for my email-datas and rejected for
the reason I mentioned already.
So , what on earth can I do!?
I am fed up! Xmarks is not a s e r v i c e, not even a c h a l l e n g e,
it ́s a demanding w a y -l a y e r and all but helpful, sorry to say!

PS As I said. rejected! -
Inappropriate?Hi Karin,
I'm sorry you're having issues. If you're looking to get rid of the Xmarks extension, I'd recommend the instructions in this link:
http://wiki.foxmarks.com/wiki/Foxmark...
That will prevent the Xmarks extension from asking for your password.

Inappropriate?I tried all of the suggestions and nothing worked. Until I ran msconfig (go to Start then Run then type in msconfig) and clicked on Startup. Scroll down and you will see Xmarks and/or Foxmarks. Uncheck them.
