Inappropriate?I got this error after I upgraded to IE 8 and before I upgraded to Foxmarks 0.9.85. I'm still getting it after upgrading to 0.9.85.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Hi,
That error code (number 32 at the end) is a Windows error that happens when there is more than one application trying to access the same file. Do you have any other synchronization programs running? And do you get the same error every time you try to synchronize? -
Inappropriate?I get the same error every time I synchronize. I even deleted the bookmark (in Firefox and IE and on My Foxmarks) and I still get the error but now on the next bookmark in my list.
I used Sysinternals Process Explorer to see if something else has the file open and cidaemon.exe has it open. cidaemon.exe is a subprocess of cisvc.exe which is Microsoft's Content Indexing service. I'm not sure why it does, but that process looks like it has everything under Favorites open.

Inappropriate?Thu Mar 26 11:37:59 2009: FoxmarksException during sync [1535] attempt: FoxmarksException [1001]: Error [6], couldn't create new INI file: \\?\C:\Documents and Settings\rma\Favorieten\De Telefoongids.url
After removing desktop.ini (onli ini-file in the map) from the favorites folder on my windowsmachine and the mentioned URL (a very old one, by the way) the syncing went flawless. Problem solved, can't explain why this worked.
-
That's odd, but thanks for the info! Glad to hear that things are working now. -
Inappropriate?I'm still getting a synchronization error and had been ignoring it since my last post. I looked at the error again this morning and noticed it had changed. It now says the following.
Mon Apr 06 07:54:53 2009: FoxmarksException in FM_CB_GET_CHANGES [500]: Tried to insert a node [2a+kO1] that already exists. Conflicting attr: name
Mon Apr 06 07:54:53 2009: FoxmarksException during sync [1537] attempt: FoxmarksException [500]: Tried to insert a node [2a+kO1] that already exists. Conflicting attr: name

Hi Ken,
Sorry about that! What version of Foxmarks are you using? I think you might be able to clean this problem up by going to the Advanced Foxmarks settings dialog and doing a Download. This will replace your local Favorites with what you have backed on our servers. After a download everything should synchronize happily. Let me know if this works for you. -
Inappropriate?I'm using 0.9.85. I did the download then a synch. Neither reported an error.

Inappropriate?I am not tech savy. I am having the issue during syne {1535} attempt. Foxmarkx Exception [1001], error [6], couldn't create new INI file.\\?\C\Users\Ruthie\Favorites\W32 Downadup Removal Tool Symantec.url.
Please dumb down your answer for me, thanks.

Inappropriate?hopefully support will have an update as to the status of the Exception during sync [1531] attemtp: FoxmarksException [1001]: Error [6] issue
The only thing that has worked for me, is to delete the url, restart the program, log in and I get to another url with a problem. so i guess i'll slowly work through the problem, but it is a bit frustrating as I am only on the Gs.
any help would be appreciated.

Inappropriate?Hi guys,
Sorry about the problems! If you're still having problems can you try something out for me? It's a little bit technical, let me know if any of it doesn't make sense!
- Note the file that is causing problems (for example, in Ruthie's case it's C\Users\Ruthie\Favorites\W32 Downadup Removal Tool Symantec.url ).
- Open Windows Explorer and navigate to where that file is
- Right-click on the file that is causing problems and select "Properties" from the popup menu that appears
- Select the "Security" tab from that dialog that pops up, then find your user name and click on it
Now look in the box that says "Permissions for <your name="true">". Is the "Allow" checkbox checked for everything (except for "Special permissions")?
Cheers,
Colin</your> -
when i right click and select Properties, I have a Web Document tab and a General tab. The read only box is checked, the Hidden box is not.
I also have an Advanced button which has File is ready to archive checked.
I saw nothing like your requested instructions.
thanks for the quick response. would screen shots help? -
Inappropriate?actually, I just selected my whole favorites folder, right clicked it, removed the check from the "Read Only" box, clicked "Okay" and signed out and restarted foxmarks. It's still syncing as we speak, so something must be working. I'll keep you posted.
If anyone can confirm this that would be awesome.
I’m happy
-
Thanks for the update, my fingers are crossed! Read only would certainly make it difficult for synchronization to work, so I'm cautiously optimistic right now! Let me know what happens. -
Inappropriate?i've had two successful syncs since yesterday - not one error. I'll be working on rearranging my newly merged bookmarks over the next week. I'll let you know if I have any further problems. But this appears to be my fix.
I did restore my bookmarks a while back from a backup hard drive, which is probably how they got to be read-only in the first place.
So i'm excited to get cross over bookmarks! Thanks Colin for keeping up with this.
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?I have this problem, but I'm not using a MAC.
I have sync'd 2 desktops (XP & Vista), 1 netbook (linux), & 1 laptop XP
the laptop also has XP. The Foxfire Xmarks worked OK, the IE get this error. I have even deleted the indicated bookmark and still get the error.
