IE-8 sync with Firefox doesn't work...
I have been using Foxmarks on Firefox 3 for some time.
I installed it on IE-8 (Windows7)... Big error. I had previously added the firefox bookmarks to IE-8 with no problems.
Firefox totally screwed up the bookmarks in IE-8 and for an extra insult it did the sync back to Firefox and they are all messed up.
I turned sync off in IE-8. Hopefully that will keep it from messing with Firefox.
I would give details but.... Too many to list.
BTW I really hate "Get Satisfaction"
I want to get this thing off of IE-8 because I need to use IE at times. How do I remove.
I have only turned on one of my computers that have Firefox installed. I can't wait to see the results when the others sync up....
Boy do I hate this...

Inappropriate? As specified on our download page, Foxmarks for IE is currently not compatible with the beta release of IE 8:
http://download.foxmarks.com/download/ie
After you've uninstalled Foxmarks for IE, you can recover your bookmarks at http://my.foxmarks.com/ under the "Tools" menu, then synchronize your other browsers up.
Uninstalling instructions can be found here: http://wiki.foxmarks.com/wiki/Foxmark...
Marking as "Solved", but let us know if any of the above doesn't work for you! -
Although there are a few half-minor compatibility issues, IE8 works quite nicely with foxmarks.
Only issue is that as both "links" and "bookmarks" are no longer using the same names as precious IE versions, syncing with IE8 changes 2 folder names which then return to Firefox via Foxmarks:
"Bookmarks Toolbar" is renamed to "Links"
"Bookmarks" is renamed to "(no title)".
This, however, does not harm or change the way Firefox treats these folder afterwards, funnily enough. It's been over a month since I started using IE8 with Foxmarks, and there were no additional quirks I noticed.
So, unofficially, you could say Foxmarks actually supports IE8 :) -
We've only seen a couple of examples of the behavior that Dee Es is describing--if you find a way to solidly replicate the Bookmarks folder losing its name, please let us know.
As Dee Es points out, though, it doesn't seem to affect synchronization at all beyond the rename. -
I run xp sp3 and IE 8 gold: Admin account syncs fine, but my non-Admin account does not sync with IE 8. I get the following error:
FoxmarksException durring sync [1528] attempt: FoxmarksException [501]: Node not found: ROOT
Thanks in advance for fixing this. -
Inappropriate?I didn't know, so thanks for the info. It occurred to me to try this...maybe I will import all my bookmarks from IE to firefox...or export first to desktop then import to FF. I can sync to other machines, and import back to IE8...anyway, that's my thoughts. Haven't done it yet, but thought I would post it because if it works, I probably won't be back.
I’m hopeful

Inappropriate? My IE8 under my non-Admin account is working today. If someone took some action to my account, thank you!
If not, is there anything that we should be doing on the client side to make sure that this kind of thing doesn't happen in the future? Do we need to make sure that we logout of one user instance on the same machine before we try to login to the other one? Are there date/time cookies involved that need wrangling?
Thanks for the service!
I’m happy to be working again!

Inappropriate? If Admin accounts can synchronize okay but non-Admin accounts have trouble, it might be a file or folder permissions issue. That'd be kinda complicated to debug, unfortunately--you'd have to hunt down which file it's having trouble accessing, etc.
I'd have to get more details about how the setup is configured to be able to help in a situation like that; I'm admittedly a little rusty with Windows administration, so would have to setup something similar on this end to try to reproduce the behavior.
