Can't sync because of error 3. Tried a number of the ideas I found on support but still not working.

Inappropriate?Hey Callidad,
What ideas did you try? (Error 3) is usually a sign of profile corruption, and can be fixed by creating a new profile. To do so, follow the directions here:
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/M...
Hope that helps -
will I lose my bookmarks? I can't save new ones and when I go to Organize bookmarks, the folder is empty.. -
Inappropriate?Same problem here. As a side note, Xmarks works fine with my PCs. And Xmarks for Safari works fine as well on both Mac and PC. It's just Firefox on the Mac that's having this issue.
-
Inappropriate?Hey TomG and Callidad,
Have you tried creating a new Firefox profile as suggested above? -
Inappropriate? That did the trick, but it's kind of a pain since I have to reload all my Greasemonkey scripts and other add-ons.
-
Inappropriate?Hey TomG,
Thanks for the update, and I'm glad you're back up and running! -
Inappropriate? You can use the FEBE firefox plugin to backup and restore plugins and settings. I use it to make FF the same on 3 pc's I regularly use. Great tool. It might help next time. BTW I've got an error 3 too.

Inappropriate?Gerben, Are you saying that FEBE will not bring the corruption with it when reimporting into a fresh profile?
Because a new profile is quite a load of work when you're all setup... :-/
thanks!
I’m wondering
-
Inappropriate?I also had this error, and solved it by checking the logfile (tools => xmarks => settings => advanced => show logfile). Scroll to the bottom of the log, and you'll probably see what bookmark causing the problem (in my case it was a bookmark linking to auto:blank). Get rid of the bookmark on your PC (or Mac) and on the server (login.xmarks.com). That did the tric for me !
-
FANTASTIC. It works for me too.... definitely this is the solution. -
can't find anything regarding bookmarks in my log file, it's all about the errors :-( -
Inappropriate?Great tip bjorn. Much easier than creating a new profile. It works too, :)

Inappropriate?Removed the last bookmark referred to in the log file and now it works again. Perfect. Thank you!
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?I"m on a Mac and now can't search because nothing happens when I try to -please advise - how do I uninstall this?
-
Can't search where? The Google box in Firefox? -
Inappropriate? Here's my log file, the part I see some error mentioned:
Original error: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x8052000b (NS_ERROR_FILE_CORRUPTED) [nsINavBookmarksService.getBookmarkIdsForURI]" nsresult: "0x8052000b (NS_ERROR_FILE_CORRUPTED)" location: "JS frame :: file:///Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/components/nsTaggingService.js :: TS_getTagsForURI :: line 299" data: no]
Can anyone help me? I don't know what that means. Thanks! -
Is that the entire contents of your log file?
Also, is xmarks displaying an error could after attempting to run? -
no, that's only the part where I've seen ERROR written. The error message appears right after I start FF, I see the Xmarks with a red question mark. Then I try to force sync and the "Unknown error ocurred (3)".
Shall I post the whole log file? -
No. This is probably enough of the log file for now.
Try following this link:

Thank you Lawrence! I saw the topic but it tells me to replace the name of the file places.sqlite, but it seems I don't have this file in my mac!! But I'll keep reading that topic to see if something new comes up. -
Inappropriate?Hi. Actually, even though you have a Mac you should still have a places.sqlite file too. (I have one on my Mac.)
Take a look in the following folder path: <<your>> : Library : Application Support : Firefox : <<gibberish name="true">>.default
That last folder gets some random name so I don't know what yours is called but it's probably the only thing in your Firefox folder. Open that folder and change the name of the places.sqlite file as the previous article suggests.
Good luck.</gibberish></your>
