Inappropriate? This would be a great service and relief if you provided this service for delicious users, who have no reliable, easy way to backup their bookmarks there.
I’m excited and relieved IF you do it!

this is one of the best points

Inappropriate?See http://getsatisfaction.com/foxmarks/t... too.
This would make Xmarks truly indispensable for myself and many others I think. -
Inappropriate?I have tons of bookmarks organized in delicious and can only import them as a flat hierarchy in xmarks. This is the only reason I am sticking with delicious!

Inappropriate?I just discovered the new features of xmarks (having dismissed foxmarks in the past as it wasn't quite what I was looking for) and I'm particularly interested in the idea of combining a standard google search with a bookmark search. However I don't want to give up on delicious altogether (for the time being, at least), so I would also much prefer a proper sync between xmarks & delicious.
I think you'd get a lot more delicious users with this option, as it would allow us to "dip our toes in the water" without committing to an entirely new bookmark platform straight away. Hopefully (from your point of view) many of these users would eventually move across to xmarks for the bulk of their bookmarking.
Another reason people might want to keep a up-to-date mirror of their bookmarks in delicious is that there are many other tools/apps which work with delicious, as it is one of the most popular bookmarking services. At the moment, I'm not aware of any mashups etc involving xmarks, so switching entirely from delicious would close off a lot of options. Syncing with delicious would keep open the option to take advantage of these integrations. -
Of course, the other benefit of getting a lot of delicious users syncing their bookmarks with xmarks is that you would vastly increase the pool of data you are using for your search feature, making the search tool much more useful. -
Inappropriate?I am returning back to del.icio.us. No API available for Xmarks, so I cannot write a program to transfer my bookmarks, and they are not providing the tool doing it, so sorry guys, until you do your homework, I'll continue my life with del.icio.us service
-
Inappropriate? We support limited import from del.icio.us.
Go to my.xmarks.com
click on the tools menu and choose "Import from del.icio.us"
It will prompt you for the del.icio.us account username from which you'd like to import.
Voila.
The "limited" part is that the bookmarks must be public, and Xmarks will only import 100 bookmarks, the most recent 100.
Hope this helps

Inappropriate?Hi Jon,
These limitations really do make the synchronization feature pretty useless for those with a large set of organized bookmarks.

Inappropriate? Thanks for the reply Rogers, the problem is, when you have more than a handful of bookmarks, you need to get them organized into a folder structure (delicious does it with tags). I can export delicious bookmarks into html (more than 100 of them even), and import into xmarks, ending in having all my bookmarks, but I loose all of my directory structure. Believe me, this makes it impractical to use the bookmarks since I have more than 100 bookmarks accumulated for more than 2 years.
I will consider importing from delicious is complete only when the directory structure is also imported.
I can write an application to fetch a users bookmarks from delicious because they have an open API, but cannot import these bookmarks to xmarks, because xmarks do not have such an API. -
Inappropriate?Yeah, I'm afraid one-way import of only the most recent 100 bookmarks doesn't even come close to the feature I need to persuade me to move over to xmarks. Firstly, it needs to be the entire set of bookmarks, with the tag structure, and second, I'd really like it to be a synchronisation rather than an import. Although a one-way import would suffice for now if you could get the entire set of bookmarks along with their tags.

Inappropriate? It is time x-marks gets improved. Sharing bookmarks is not anymore a wish... is a need
I’m really hoping more people support this idea
-
Inappropriate?Delicious and Xmarks are complementary.
Use delicious to tag articles and "interesting stuff" you might look up again later. Delicious is for things you *read* and things you *collect*.
Use XMarks to synchronise your regular websites and tools (facebook, twitter, etc etc) across your browsers so that you always have the same version of your bookmarks toolbar at hand. XMarks is for things you *use*
I’m unconcerned
-
Inappropriate?Ok... I see the point.
I'm a hevy user for x-marks, not for delicious but i might improve that.
Still there are many bookmarks for my regular sites that I continiously *use*, that are commons for other people. I'm sure I could profit a lot by knowing bookmarks other people use with similar interests than mines. For example there is always something new showing up, and recommendations for bookmarks would be a great solution to be always updated....
So, if necessary keep delicious and x-marks separated, but please add some new features to x-marks!
I’m unsure
-
Inappropriate?Hmmm, maybe XMarks could sync bookmarks for just particular tags on delicious.
For example, tell XMarks to sync to the "toolbar" tag, and then whenever you add a bookmark in either XMarks "Toolbar" folder or under the Delicious "toolbar" tag ... it will appear in the other.
Complication is that browser bookmarks use multi-level folders while delicious only does flat tags. Compound tags like "toolbar:home:foo" are frowned upon in delicious tag-land - so maybe you have to manually configure a folder-tag correspondence, or have delicious just use the folder name components as additional tags (tags of "toolbar","home", and "foo")
I’m thinking this could be cool
