Password sync: Create PIN dialog hangs, keeps spinning...
After selecting the "Passwords" synchronization types, and entering a PIN, the "Create PIN" dialog hangs and does not proceed. The operation can be canceled, but after canceling shows a spinning Foxmarks icon in lower right portion of browser window that cannot be stopped until restarting the browser.
This is on Windows XP - Firefox 3.0.3.

Inappropriate? This sounds like the extension may have crashed. When this happens, do you find anything seemingly relevant on the Error Console?
http://wiki.foxmarks.com/wiki/Foxmark... -
Yes. On the Error Console I'm getting:
Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x804b000a (NS_ERROR_MALFORMED_URI) [nsIDOMXULDocument.loadOverlay]" nsresult: "0x804b000a (NS_ERROR_MALFORMED_URI)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://global/content/bindings/preferences.xml :: showPane :: line 686" data: no] -
That doesn't seem to be directly related, actually. You might need to restart Firefox completely to see the error related to the Foxmarks behavior. -
Ah sorry, here's the foxmarks error I'm getting:
Error: input is undefined
Source File: chrome://foxmarks/content/shared/Base64.js
Line: 54 -
What do you see on your Error Console? -
Inappropriate?I get the following that particularly stand out:
Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x804b000a (NS_ERROR_MALFORMED_URI) [nsIDOMXULDocument.loadOverlay]" nsresult: "0x804b000a (NS_ERROR_MALFORMED_URI)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://global/content/bindings/preferences.xml :: showPane :: line 686" data: no]
Error: input is undefined
Source File: chrome://foxmarks/content/shared/Base64.js
Line: 54
EDIT: I assume it's the following line in the js file that's at fault somehow:
input = input.replace(/[^A-Za-z0-9\+\/\=]/g, "");
I would help fix it but I have no idea where to start! Also, my Foxmarks log is identical to that of the first post, only obviously different times. -
My spinning icon screen was just after putting in the PN on "screen B".
This was on the second computer I upgraded (office). The first computer (home) seemed to successfully upload the saved passwords, which was done last night. -
Thanks for the fast feedback Chris! This is very helpful.
Are you able to reproduce this issue? If so, could you tell us exactly what you're doing? We're unable to reproduce this on our end. Also, if you don't mind, please let us know your username. If you'd rather not do it in a public forum, email us at support at foxmarks dot com.
In a few hours, we're going to put up another version of the client here that does a lot more logging. If you don't mind, would you mind installing that version and then reproducing the issue? If you can do that and send us the logs, we'll be very grateful.
If anyone else can help us understand exactly how to reproduce this problem we'd appreciate it very much.
Thank you again for your patience and continued help! We're working hard to resolve this for you asap. -
Here are the steps I'm doing:
Computer A (Mac) - Install Foxmarks v2.5.0, Sync bookmarks and passwords (is successful)
Computer B (WinXP) - Install Foxmarks v2.5.0, get to Screen B, type in PIN - dialog just sits there spinning.
The Error Console reports:
Error: input is undefined
Source File: chrome://foxmarks/content/shared/Base64.js
Line: 54
Let me know if you'd like me to try some other tests, I have multiple computers that I can test with.
I will email you at support with my username and reference this problem. Thanks for looking into! :) -
Inappropriate?I'm seeing similar behavior.
This is my second installation of the new version of Foxmarks. I'm seeing Screen B.
When I first enter the Foxmarks Settings, I get this error message:
Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x804b000a (NS_ERROR_MALFORMED_URI) [nsIDOMXULDocument.loadOverlay]" nsresult: "0x804b000a (NS_ERROR_MALFORMED_URI)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://global/content/bindings/preferences.xml :: showPane :: line 686" data: no]
And then after I enter my password into Screen B, I get this error:
Error: input is undefined
Source File: chrome://foxmarks/content/shared/Base64.js
Line: 54
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I'm getting the same thing. After entering my PIN and clicking next I get the spinning wheel.
Error console shows:
Error: input is undefined
Source File: chrome://foxmarks/content/shared/Base64.js
Line: 54
I have already set up password synching on my home PC (Vista & latest Firefox), this is my work PC (XP, latest FF).
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?I"m reporting the same problem as well.
Home Vista/Latest firefox PW sync works fine.
Work XP/Latest Firefox - Get screen B and after inputting the PIN, the screen just hangs and spins.
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?I'm having this problem on one of my machines on the same (company) network.
It seemed to work on my first installation (Windows XP), though no passwords are available in 'Manage Sync Profiles' part on the server: "No passwords found on server.".
On my second installation (Windows Server 2008) it spins and hangs as described...
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?Here's my two cents.
I was having this same problem. I initially had configured foxmarks to sync my passwords from a linux machine. The setup seemed to complete successfully, but when I would go to my.foxmarks.com and try to view my passwords from the Manage Sync Profiles screen, it said there were no passwords.
Despite that, I attempted to sync my passwords on a Windows XP machine. That's when I would get the hang on the Create PIN screen.
But, I was able to work around it by going back to my linux machine, and selecting the option to Delete Passwords from the server. After I did that, I went in to my XP machine, and configured password sync. Since it appeared as if it was a new setup, I got Screen A (from above). I successfully completed the sync and when I viewed the passwords on my.foxmarks.com, they were there. Then I went to my linux machine, configured the sync (where I got Screen B), and it completed. Now everything is working fine.
As a test, I went in, deleted all my passwords and set up sync again using my linux machine to do the initial sync. This time it worked. I have a feeling that something was tweaked on my initial sync, and that's what was causing the hang.
I hope this helps.

Followed Shane's procedure of Deleting Passwords from the server (from the first computer) and re-syncing - Password sync works now on both computers.
Thanks Shane! -
Inappropriate?I'm facing this problem too. I synced from my office without any problems, whereas I'm getting the spinning screen as shown above when I try from home(both on windows) I'll try what "Shane" has mentioned tomorrow and see if it works
I’m confident

Inappropriate?Hey everyone,
We're following the same issue in a different thread. Have a look at the update I just posted over there. It's basically a request to try a test client and send us some feedback. Any and all help is much appreciated. Thank you all for your patience.
-
Inappropriate? We're getting a better picture from your feedback, but we still need some more data since we still can't reproduce this issue here.
If you can, please send us your Foxmarks log from the first computer that you were able to successfully sync passwords with (instructions here).
Also, please send us a list of the other add-ons that you have installed.
Thank you again for your help and support. -
Inappropriate?Alright folks, we have some good news: we think we have found the solution to this problem. We have a test client available that contains the fix that we would like for you to try out. Install it and try to reproduce the issue. Let us know how it goes!
Please be warned: this is only a test client to help us determine and is not intended to be used in the long term. You should upgrade as soon as a new version is available on the official Mozilla site.
Download the test client v2.5.3
Thank you all for your continued patience and support!
I’m hopeful that we've found the solution!

Inappropriate? No. After fix 2.5.3 problem persists as described earlier. I have plenty of patience left, so don't hurry.

I’m doing something else anyway

Kiko: If you use the deletion solution that Shane mentioned previously, does that get things working for you? -
