Inappropriate? The same thing keeps happening to me. also firefox keeps crashing for some reason. I dont know if this is related but t started hapening at about the same time
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Everything was working fine. Went to breakfast and come back and it will not sync. My GMAIL passwords are screwed up. Just checked other account passwords and they are corrupt also. It was set to Home profile. Now it is set to None. I think that is the problem but it will not let me change it. Can not do a force download from server either.

Inappropriate? We'd need to see your foxmarks.log to be sure, but it sounds like your Firefox password stores are probably corrupted. A fix for that is described in this thread:
http://getsatisfaction.com/foxmarks/t... -
Inappropriate?I will check that other thread and see if it fixes the problem.

This is actually bookmark store corruption rather than password store corruption. A new Firefox profile would fix things, though:

Inappropriate?I am having the same problem. I am giving up using foxmarks now as it is recurring on a regular basis and I am constantly creating new profiles.
I’m sad
-
swainston: You're getting the NS_ERROR_FILE_CORRUPTED error on a regular basis? That's unusual--does Firefox crash on you a lot? There might be a system issue that needs resolving. -
Inappropriate?Since upgrading Firefox from version 2 to 3 I have not enjoyed the same stability of the browser. I noted that updates to version 3 have been addressing stability issues so assumed that this was something Mozilla were working on. How would you advise I proceed from here.
I’m unsure
-
Inappropriate?swainston: We're not able to help with general Firefox stability issues; is the problem you're experiencing specifically related to Foxmarks?
-
Inappropriate?Eric, you were the one who suggested it may be a Firefox problem - as far as I am concerned the error is reported by Foxmarks and is therefore assumed to be a Foxmarks problem.
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate?swainston: Sorry, my mix-up there. I missed that you were responding to my previous question, and thought you were just contributing a non sequitur comment.
If Firefox is regularly crashing on you, and Foxmarks has problems due to the crashes, unfortunately my best recommendation is to uninstall Foxmarks. I can't address the stability issues you're experiencing with Firefox, and so long as they're causing problems with the Firefox data stores that Foxmarks relies on for smooth operation, Foxmarks probably won't be of much use for you.
Keep submitting crash reports to Mozilla, though, and hopefully they'll release something more stable for you in the future, at which point using Foxmarks becomes an option again.
You might also consider searching on Mozilla's support forum--sometimes there are tweaks you can make to Firefox to get it to run more smoothly:

Inappropriate?Eric. Thanks for your comment. I appreciate you can't help with a Firefox problem. I have already searched on their forum and note that there are lots of people having stability issues with the latest release. It would appear from what you say my only option, unfortunately, is to disable Foxmarks at the moment until the stability issue is resolved with Firefox.
Thanks a lot for your speedy response.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Eric. After chatting to you the other day I completely un-installed Firefox including profiles etc. and re-installed. I have had no problems at all with the stability of Firefox and Foxmarks has been working beautifully. Today I had my laptop lock up completely and now I have 'Problem Syncing: Unknown error occurred (3)' so now I have no choice but to disable it again.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?swainston: Sorry you're having so much trouble with it. It's possible that there might be something about your computer that doesn't work well with Firefox -- if it's crashing, it might be that there's insufficient RAM to run well, or could even have problems with the hard drive causing the data corruption.
All of which is outside my ability to diagnose, unfortunately.
I hope you're able to find a good solution! -
Inappropriate?I had a similar error "Unknown Error Occurred (3)". I looked in my log and saw there was a type mismatch error on a particular url (which was not important to me) and after deleting it, was able to get past the error. Now it says changes pending...
-
Inappropriate?Hey Lorin,
After editing a bookmark, it will set your sync state to "Changes pending." This is to notify the user that there are changes that have been made, but have not been synchronized to our servers. Are you able to sync by doing the following: Firefox->Tools->Xmarks->Sync Now ?
Thanks -
Inappropriate?wow, in error situation delete files? reinstall? new profile? clean reinstal firefox? i can ́t believe, solved??????? is it a joke?

Inappropriate?I had the same issue with the unknown error (3) and my issue was resolved by removing some (or all?) of the bookmarks that had the resource type set to "feed://". I'm syncing with Xmarks for Safari also, but the errors were from the Firefox Xmarks sync.
I’m amused
-
Inappropriate?I run Xmarks on Windows and Linux. I do not seem to be having this issue on my Linux box, just my windows box.
-
Inappropriate?I am pretty unhappy with XMarks now.
- I started using Foxmarks and it was great, then it then became Xmarks and worked for some time. It stopped working.
- I used Weave for a while and things were great with it too, but then it broke.
- Came back to Xmarks because I thought maybe the sync problem was gone. Nope...it clearly still exists.
- I have even created a new account as well to try and fix whatever sync issue is there. But for some reason now the program never fully syncs...even with a brand new profle; it just clocks as if actively syncing but it's not actually doing anything. It just shows ready/ready and a blue status bar scrolls continuously from left to right.
What is going on with this Xmarks project?
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?ric & Lars,
It has been my experience that Eric never admits XMarks has a problem, always blames Firefox, and his only solution is to delete everything and perform a fresh install. And, yes, I am having the same problem with the same Unknown error number (3). How can it be number (3) if it is unknown???
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?from France,
all was allright until I install firefox 3.5.3.
since this installation, I've the problem
"Problem Syncing: Unknown error occurred (3)
We just encountered an unknown error (number is 3). Please visit our help page."
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Once again I bumped into this issue (the error #3) and AGAIN IT WAS RESOLVED WHEN I DELETED YET ANOTHER BOOKMARK STARTING "feed://". I found this line from the log:
Exception in AcceptNodes: Error: Type mismatch for ...
How the hell is this issue solved? Type mismatch is not something you should see when everything is claimed to be working fine! This is really frustrating.
I think I'll switch to weave.
I’m utterly frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I have the same problems with Xmarks, I have no links with "feed://" in my list, as this is a continuing pain in the @rse I will look for something else, sorry Xmarks but you just don't cut it for me, great idea but way too flaky for daily use.

Inappropriate?Xmarks needs to think again and mark this problem unsolved. A new profile didn't work. It's working fine with Safari. There's a problem with Firefox and Xmarks, which experts need to investigate and solve.
-
Inappropriate?i have this issue as well, it pops up all the time, i can resolve it without creating new profile, which, is not an acceptable solution to begin with. but it's such a pain in the butt. out of curiosity, is anyone here using weave as well? i wonder if this is causing an issue, possibly they try to sync at the same time or something? either way, at least once a week i run into some reason that xmarks won't sync and i need to delete all bookmarks and get a fresh sync from xmarks
-
Inappropriate? This problem occurs with Bookmarks Duplicate Detector (http://bookmarkdd.mozdev.org/) installed. I don't want to merge my bookmarks on this computer with the servers (tried that and got 3 x all my bmarks). This time I attempted to Download (which is suppose to erase bookmarks off the computer and download server bmarks) but when it begins my BDD says "Would you like to add as a duplicate?" 2000 times. It is merging my bookmarks instead of downloading a fresh copy. I hit "No" on BDD so I don't have to spend an entire day deleting 4000 duplicate bmarks and that is when the error occurs. Because BDD prevents the continuation of the Merge (which is supposed to be a download!).
